Jesus and His True Sheep [podcast]

Jesus, the Great Shepherd of HIS sheep, never misses His que right … amen. He’s perfect and always right on time. What’s Psalms 121:4 say?

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. … 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” John 10:11, 14

How do we know who Jesus’ true sheep are … as opposed to the many who claim to be His?

Here Jesus gives a promise and a condition.

The Heaven bound came in through the one “door” and are presently abiding in that Savior to the end…. hearing His voice, following Him.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” John 10:27-29

He knows His sheep by two things – by those who hear His voice and follow Him. It is to them, exclusively, He gives this promise, all others are excluded, including those who do not “endure to the end” (Matthew 10:22; 24:13). Hearing and following the voice of the Great Shepherd speaks of intimate fellowship. Jesus told us that He created and saved us to know Him (John 17:3). Your life with Christ is nothing about religion but everything about relationship. Jesus wants us close to Him at all times. Those who stay in close intimate fellowship with Jesus are given the promise to never be removed.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalms 91:1

Picture this: You have three children, one child clings to you, the parent. The other two run wild across a grass field among the elements, which include dangerous animals. Which of the three children is safe? Which of the children are not safe?

When Jesus says “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand,” when He gives His promises here, He also gives His condition, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” Those who are presently listening and hearing the voice of Jesus (the Word), and following Him, are promised to not be removed from Him. See John 10:27-29.

This is a typical example of the importance, the need to read God’s Word for ourselves, to read the whole context, to make sure someone is not lifting something out of its context using slight of hand, as they hide things they don’t want you to see.

What does this speak to? Notice that in this glorious passage on record for us in John 10, Jesus is speaking as Himself being the divine Shepherd and His people are His sheep.

God is speaking to His people and His sheep are hearing His voice in this last hour (Revelation 2-3). His people are known in that they are saved by the Great Shepherd and engaging in a present and ongoing relationship with Him. They listen to, hear, and are directed by Him and no other.

The promise of John 10:28-29 belongs only to those who are meeting the conditions of verse 27.

“Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21

Jesus, the Great Shepherd specifically identifies His sheep as those who hear His voice and follow Him – worshipfully obey Him. His sheep are engaging in an intimate relationship with Him.

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” Revelation 3:19
