The Importance, the Blessing of the Family Dinner Table [podcast]

The family table is a spread for the bounty of our God to be celebrated and praised!

“And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.” Ecclesiastes 3:13

“Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.” Ecclesiastes 5:19

The dynamics, the blessings of eating together are innumerable.

It seems apparent that in the divine economy, eating together, namely families and disciples, played an important part in bonding, instructions, etc.

“Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: 21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. 22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;” Deuteronomy 11:18-22

In John 21, Jesus ate fish with his disciples after his resurrection and the miraculous catch of 153 fish (21:1-14).

Family meals provide an opportunity for family members to come together, strengthen ties and build better relationships. They build a sense of belonging which leads to a more deep seated confidence. Family meals offer parents a chance to be role models. They can set an example of healthy eating and polite table manners, etiquette.

God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” Psalms 68:6

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” Psalms 23:5

Studies reveal that the families who have a nightly family dinner together at their dinner table have improved mental health, bonded families, better grades in their children, better physical health due to healthier foods, increased savings…

“I don’t want my children growing up and saying: “Mama was too busy to cook. We grew up on fast food.” What would I be filling our days with that would make me too busy or too tired to prepare a meal for my family?” From DaughterOfTheOneTrueKing….

I agree with this dear lady. I can’t imagine a home, a family that doesn’t have nice hot meals daily.
