The Way We Spend Our Money is a Direct Reflection of the Priorities of Our Heart [podcast]

A financial investor takes your money and multiplies it for your last few years in this temporal life, right? In contrast, laborers for Christ take your support and multiply it for Christ and themselves for all eternity. In Christ’s eternal kingdom – everybody wins, all the time, forever. King Jesus reigns forever!

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38

Paul was not coveting any man’s money – “I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel” (Acts 20:33). No! He wanted God’s people to invest in Christ’s eternal kingdom – into eternal souls – and by doing so fill their “account” in Heaven. – “Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account” (Philippians 4:17).

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  Matthew 6:33

If you want to see if a ministry is telling the truth, you may wish to see how well supported they are. No need: If they are telling the whole truth of God, they are under-supported. Counterfeits, which make up the vast majority of professing Christians today are “enemies of the cross of Christ” (Philippians 3:18-19).

The tares among us do not support the ministry of the original and true Gospel. And, every true minister of Christ’s original Gospel will regularly preach the cross – the blood of His cross and the crucified life He mandates that we walk in daily – which is the only divine prescription for overcoming all sin – which God requires (Luke 9:23-24; Romans 6; 2 Corinthians 4:10-12; Galatians 2:20; 5:24; Colossians 3:3, etc.).

What are you bidding Godspeed to? See 2 John 10-11. In other words, what are you funding? What are you pushing forward?

Hint: Every authentic God-fearing truth-telling, called-out laborer of Christ is under-supported. They should be fully supported, but they aren’t – and that’s where you come in – to do your part in the proclamation of our LORD’s Gospel work. Jesus is coming. Will He find your hand on the plow of His Gospel work?

“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62

If you want to see where you truly are spiritually – either truly in Christ, or not – look at where your money is going.

Know this – If a Gospel laborer is endeavoring to preach the whole truth of God, leaving no doctrinal stone left unturned, he’s poor and needs you to jump in – to get behind our LORD’s work – to supply it! Just do it. Let’s put our money where our mouth is and stop having to “pray about” doing what God already commanded us to do. It’s interesting that some who have to “pray about” giving to God’s work have no hesitation to continue to waste, to spend God’s money on frivolous pursuits, stuff. They jump out and impulse-buy all kinds of frivolous stuff that has no eternal value. Is today the day to change your life? Will your conscience not be clear after you’ve given God the first portion? (See Proverbs 3:9-10.) If you don’t take control of your money today, it will continue to have control over you.

The way we spend our money is a direct reflection of the priorities of our heart. Putting God first (Matthew 6:33).

Jesus Instructed Us to Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

Notice: From this outreach, by God’s grace, will continue to flow a whole spectrum, an array of divine biblical truth. We shall not cease to preach the whole counsel of God – with no fear of man – including the biblical doctrine and responsibility of stewardship.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38

This is not enticement, these are the words of Jesus – the Son of God – whom many claim to know and yet but a few have the fruit to prove they know Him or rather that He knows them.

“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:20-21

Might it be best to cease asking true Gospel laborers what they have need of …. and simply begin giving the first portion of your income to supply them? You know, right off the top of that which God has and is giving you? Yes.

What did Jesus instruct His people to pray concerning HIS called out Gospel laborers?

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:35-38

Have you prayed for them? Are you supplying them? Or, are you living for this fleeting world.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15

Want to see if you love the world more than you love Christ? If so, open your bank statement and see where your money is flowing out to (Matthew 6:21).

The God-called ministers of the original Gospel are famishing – and it’s your privilege and duty to contribute so they can flourish.

Is it time to revamp and put God first by getting behind His Gospel?

“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10

There’s nothing to pray about. Just obey the LORD who gave you everything you have.

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

“But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7  Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8  And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9  (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
10  Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
11  Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.”

Doing Yourself a Favor …

WHEN you give to God’s work – you do no one a favor more than yourself. It’s time to repent for real, to clear the deck, and to obey God. Consider declaring today that your days of free loading are over 😉

YOUR PRAYER: Holy Father, I stand rebuked by Your Word – and corrected. Here and now I repent of all self-idolatry, pride, and spiritual adultery. From this very moment, please make my conscience clean and super sensitive to Your conviction and leading. Have Your way in me dear LORD. I am not my own but rather bought by the price You paid on that cross dear Jesus. I love You. From this moment forth, it’s not my way but Thine that shall be done. Into Your holy hands I here and now submit my spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
