Question: Is anything missing from the New American Bible or the Rheims-Douay?

Answer: Actually, there are many words both added to and missing from these Roman Catholic Bibles.

Adding to Scripture

The New American, Douay/Rheims and other Roman Catholic Bibles add to Scripture.

Old Testament Apocrypha

The Roman Catholic Old Testament adds uninspired books, which we call Apocrypha, to the Bible, as if it were scripture.

  • The additions to Esther
  • Song of the Three Young Children
  • Bel and the Dragon
  • Judith
  • Tobit
  • Wisdom of Solomon
  • Wisdom of Jesus ben Sirach
  • I & II Maccabees

Roman Catholic Bibles, from the 300s AD to the present, include these uninspired Alexandrian Egyptian additions to Scripture. It wasn’t until 1548 at the Roman Catholic Council of Trent that the Apocrypha was declared to be actual Scripture, in reaction to the Protestant Bibles. Translators of the King James Bible, God’s preserved words in English, were told to include the Apocrypha. But they wrote seven excellent reasons why not to include it in Scripture. Alexander McClure, in his book wrote down these reasons:

  1. Not one of them is in the Hebrew language, which was alone used by the inspired historians and poets of the Old Testament.
  2. Not one of the writers lays any claim to inspiration.
  3. These books were never acknowledged as sacred Scriptures by the Jewish Church, and therefore were never sanctioned by our Lord.
  4. They were not allowed a place among the sacred books, during the first four centuries of the Christian Church.
  5. They contain fabulous statements, and statements which contradict not only the canonical Scriptures, but themselves; as when, in the two Books of Maccabees, Antiochus Epiphanes is made to die three different deaths in as many different places.
  6. It inculcates doctrines at variance with the Bible, such as prayers for the dead and sinless perfection.
  7. It teaches immoral practices, such as lying, suicide, assassination and magical incantation.

So the translators were careful to separate the Apocrypha from the Bible, putting it in a separate section between the Old and New Testaments, with each page clearly labeled, “Apocrypha.” The last page of II Maccabees, in the 1611 King James reads, “End of Apocrypha.” Then it returns to God’s inspired words in Matthew.

Taking away from Scripture

New Testament –

But the Roman Catholic Bible is a perverted Alexandrian Egyptian Bible, not a preserved Antiochian Bible, like the King James. It is a combination of the heretical Egyptian Bible, including the Alexandrian Apocrypha, and blended to look like the preserved Vaudois Latin scriptures. It omits thousands of words and a number of entire verses.

The Roman Catholic New American Bible (also called the “St. Joseph’s Bible” is very similar, almost identical in New Testament text to many Protestant Bibles

  • NIV (1973, 1978) and TNIV (the 2002 “Gender-Neutral” revision of the NIV)
  • English Revised Version (1881,1885) and its USA revision, American Standard (1901)
  • Revised Standard (1946, 1952) and NRSV (its 1989 “Gender-Neutral” revision of the RSV)
  • Revisions of the American Standard, such as the New American Standard (1962) and the Living Bible (1971)
  • Today’s English Version
  • New English and Revised English Bibles
  • Moffatt, Goodspeed, Wuest, J.B. Phillips and many other Protestant Bibles.

What’s the Difference?

There is a lot added to (the Apocrypha) and taken away from (Alexandrian perversion) the Catholic Bibles. Most modern Protestant Bibles do not contain the Apocrypha, though some do. But there is almost no difference at all between the Roman Catholic New Testament and the modern Protestant perversions. Whichever you choose, ultimately you’re being led down the primrose path of perversion. The only way to completely avoid this “broad way” is to take the narrow path and read the King James Bible.

May God bless you as you read His preserved words in English, the King James Bible.

God Blesses those who Read His Word [book]

God blesses those who Read His Word

“Blessed is he that readeth” Revelation 1:3

“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and READ.” Isaiah 34:16

“Rightly dividing the word of truth”

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

YES God’s people are to “study” His Word and how else to do such than to begin by “READING” His words? 2 Timothy 2:15

“Till I come, give attendance to READING, to exhortation, to doctrine.” 1 Timothy 4:13

“Bless is he that READETH ….” Revelation 1:3

Years ago I found that if I don’t get up early to read God’s Word and spend quality moments in prayer first and foremost, it will never happen. God must be put first and this requires ruthless discipline.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

Reading all of God’s Word is the priority of ever astute follower of Jesus.

There’s no way to learn God’s Word other than reading it yourself (2 Timothy 2:15) God gave you His Word in tangible format in order for you to learn of Him from Him and by Him. Those who leave it to others to teach them God’s Word are self-deceived and will be misled by those they depend on to teach them the Bible.

“I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12

O the beauty of doing things God’s way.  When things are done our LORD’s way, His blessings ensue! Blessings will chase you down! Are you putting GOD first in your life, truly, literally?

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

“The joy and rejoicing of mine heart”

“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.”  Jeremiah 15:16

GOD’S WORD

Saints, in order that some may be encouraged, below, let’s talk about our current personal Bible reading…..

“Presently, I am in 1 Kings, reading all the way through the Bible again, and also reading through Revelation backwards. Personally I like to read several chapters every morning to begin the day and like to include OT, Poetic books, and New Testament chapter readings….. along with pouring over passages like 1 Cor 13; Phil 2:3-5; Col. 3:1-4, 12-14;” Todd

“In 1 Thessalonians reading through the Bible.” Jason

“I am reading Mark.” Michele

“Philippians—Paul’s letter in prison—and joy.” Joe

“I Been Reading James And 1st An 2nd Peter This Week.” Connie

“Working my way through 1 Sam (ch 14 finished now) Psalms 77 and John chapter 4 finished. Trying to read through in 6 months. I enjoy listening (KJB on YouTube) while I read also.” Nathan

Summary of Tom Wadsworth’s teaching on modern worship as compared to the New Testament church [video]

The corporate type church buildings begun with the cult of Rome as did the seminaries. This is Satan’s typical centralization model (think tower of babel). Centralization of the church building and the installed wolves go hand in hand in order to control what happens, doesn’t happen and what is taught and not taught. All Satan then has to do is install his unsaved seminarian agent false teachers into those “official” church buildings.

Occultic Origins of the Law of Attraction and the Secret and Word of Faith Theology [video]

The Law of Attraction and The Secret and Word of Faith Theology are Witchcraft Operated in by Self-Serving, Christ-Denying Rebels

“WITCHCRAFT” is on the list of soul damning sins (Galatians 5:19-21). Witchcraft breaks down to control. It’s simply when man takes control, in place of God. Cross-less. See Isaiah 14:12-15 and 1 Samuel 15:22-23).

The law of attraction is 100% witchcraft and manipulation and not trusting God.

“The Law of Attraction is from the Devil. 💯 Someone had brought it up in a group Wednesday and the Law of Attraction is making us out to be as GOD and bring things we think into existence. Praise Jesus 🙏 let this knowledge be known to everyone. what is the law of attraction simply it is thinking about something you want a car for example and all the individual will do is think of this car “bringing” it into existence all day think of it picture themselves driving it sitting in it etc. 🚗 only…” unknown

What are you willing to sell your soul for? What so-called temporary “success” are you willing to trade Jesus in for? Who are you truly serving? Have you truly repented, falling upon the mercy of God for your gross iniquity and laying down your life? “Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish (go to hell).” (Luke 13:3, 5)  (This is a good video but we do not condone all of the author’s teachings.)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7
