Essential Truths of Spiritual Warfare

“The sword of the Spirit is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17

The LORD is calling His true followers to turn His sword – His Word – on their own hearts in order to circumcise them of all evil (Jeremiah 4:4; 17:9; Hosea 10:12; Isaiah 58; Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23-24; Philippians 3:3; Colossians 2:11-12, etc.).

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

Exercising mastery over the sinful inclinations of the flesh is essential to overcoming victory (1 Cor. 9:27; 15:31; Rom. 6, etc.).

DO DEVILS have free reign in the lives of the lost? Yes… capture this truth:

“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” Ephesians 2:2

When we hear or read “spiritual warfare” teachings today, we must ask: Do we see anyone doing that in Scripture? So much of what is pawned off today as “spiritual warfare” is actually witchcraft.
