Humbly Serving

Provided by Curtis Johnson

Exodus 31:1-11

The LORD of glory, Heaven’s King came to serve and not to be served. Does this not say it all?

“And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren. 25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:24-28

Our text for today is an important reminder that whenever believers involve themselves in the work of the Lord, He will provide the skills and wisdom necessary to fulfill the task. In the construction of the tabernacle in the wilderness, God designated some to be leaders and specifically called them, by name, to accomplish His purpose (vv.2,6). The Lord also called others to assist in this important work, although He did not mention them by name; instead, they were identified as wise hearted (v.6). Those not mentioned by name did not feel slighted, nor, on the other hand, were leaders lifted up in pride. All were wise hearted-that is why they responded to God’s call. Furthermore, the Lord gave additional wisdom to all who purposed to give themselves in service to their God, and they were filled with the Spirit of God (vv.3, 6). When the Lord’s work is done in this spiritual way, He is glorified. And remember, as was mentioned yesterday, we are to do all for His glory.

Sadly, a common characteristic of many in Christian ministry today is the carnal desire to make a fair shew in the flesh rather than being those whose only glory is in Christ’s work (Gal.6:12-14). However, at the opposite extreme are those who fail to respond to God’s call at all because they consider themselves to be lacking in the required abilities and skills. The child of God is to avoid both extremes. Wise-hearted believers will never hesitate to step out in faith and trust the Lord to supply His much needed grace, for God’s commandments are always accompanied by His enabling (1 Tim.1:12-14). Wise, Spirit-filled, godly workers are desperately needed today!

Man Shall not Live by Bread Alone [podcast]

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” 1 Peter 2:2

Spiritual growth occurs when we ingest the words of God, embrace, incorporate, and walk them out.

“Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12

The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.”Psalms 33:11

The graphic message below is from a dear sister in Christ named Cassandra, on SubStack:

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23  For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24  For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25  But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:22-25

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.” Jeremiah 15:16

YOUR PRAYER: Holy Father, thank You for finding and forgiving me and saving me into Your eternal family. Help me realize the utter importance of feeding on Your Word daily. I love You dear LORD Jesus. Help me to love You more LORD. Help me to feed, to nourish the members of Your body with Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
