This week, while having a rich fellowship with a dear and growing brother in Christ, he asked me about the Hebrew Roots movement. We took a look at the passage most prominently used by modern judaizers to promulgate their wicked wares – Matthew 5:17-18. They use this passage to “prove” that born again, saved-by grace-through faith NEW Testament saints are still under the law of Moses, that they are accountable to keep the law in order to be saved. Brother Stephen and I read this passage and discussed how Jesus never said we have to keep the law to be righteous in this passage. Take a look:

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matthew 5:17-18

In the above passage, did Jesus say, did the Son of God teach us that we must keep the whole law? No. After reading this we discussed Galatians 2:21, which states “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

Brother Stephen said a friend of his was trying to get him to go to weekend feast of booths type celebration. I proceeded to give him Scripture on this and communicate to him that Christ has already come and died. Those shadows under the Old Covenant merely pointed to Jesus – and it’s all about Jesus, not the mere pictures of Him before He came. I then referred this brother to the Hebrews Roots or Judaizing Devils categories on this website and emailed to him one of the posts on this topic. He was hungry to find out what the Bible has to say about grave vs law keeping. Well, he got a motherlode of Bible truth on this matter. We read through a few passages of Scriptures, including Colossians 2:4-10 and he was warned that without fail, the Hebrew Roots judaizers ultimately seek to bring people back under the law. And that this is Satan’s attempt to draw saved-by-grace NEW Testament saints to fall from saving grace by ceasing to trust Christ’s perfect sacrifice and going back to attempting to keep the whole law. Brother Stephen and I also looked at Romans 3:28; James 2:10 and Galatians 5:18 concerning the truth that no man can keep the whole law perfectly and that only Christ did such and then nailed the law for righteousness to the cross and took it out of the way (Colossians 2:14-19). And, that if we’ve broken just one of the commandments of God then we are fully, 100% guilty before God of breaking His whole law (James 2:10). We discussed being faced with being under law or grace and that each of us must choose. There is no neutral ground – one either chooses to be under law or to be under the saving grace of God in Christ alone (John 1:17). In light of the end time events transpiring before our eyes we are keeping our:

Eyes to Jesus (Luke 21:28; Colossians 3:1-4; Hebrews 12:1-3).
Hand to the plough of His work (Luke 9:62).

Here’s one of the responses given to this man in that conversation:

“Nothing of this offends me. Just iron sharpening iron concerning sound doctrine (Titus 2:1). ‘But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine’ (Titus 2:1). 2 Peter 1:3-4 informs us that ‘ALL things that pertain unto life and godliness’ are found in God’s Word, in His ‘exceeding great and precious promises.’ Why then do we resort to using extra biblical symbolism, especially that which is out of a known pagan, blasphemous religion? Certainly the Holy Spirit is not behind such. If we are truly in Christ’s service, we should use Christ’s Word and not something contrary to it (Colossians 3:16; 2 Timothy 3:15-17). Do we not mislead when we do such?

Paul denounced….

If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.” Philippians 3:3-11

Salvation, ministry, is all about Jesus Christ, not us.

“That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:29-31

“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Asking the LORD to strip you and build you from the ground up – HIS way and no other. Ask Him to remove every trace, every iota of flesh, of deceit, of evil (2 Corinthians 7:1).

God Blesses those who Read His Word

“Blessed is he that readeth” Revelation 1:3

“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and READ.” Isaiah 34:16

“Rightly dividing the word of truth”

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

YES God’s people are to “study” His Word and how else to do such than to begin by “READING” His words? 2 Timothy 2:15

“Till I come, give attendance to READING, to exhortation, to doctrine.” 1 Timothy 4:13

“Blessed is he that READETH ….” Revelation 1:3

Years ago I found that if I don’t get up early to read God’s Word and spend quality moments in prayer first and foremost, it will never happen. God must be put first and this requires ruthless discipline.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

Reading all of God’s Word is the priority of every astute follower of Jesus.

There’s no way to learn God’s Word other than reading it yourself (2 Timothy 2:15). God gave you His Word in tangible format in order for you to learn of Him, from Him, and by Him. Those who leave it to others to teach them God’s Word are self-deceived and will be misled by those they depend on to teach them the Bible.

“I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12

O the beauty of doing things God’s way. When things are done our LORD’s way, His blessings ensue! Blessings will chase you down! Are you putting GOD first in your life, truly, literally?

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
