In His Word, our LORD speaks to WHAT we are to speak, His Word, and how we are to speak His Word.

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” Ephesians 6:17

Hint: You are no hero for speaking God’s truth. Anyone can do that.

How do we know we are maturing? For the answer to that vital question, keep reading.

We should beware of contaminating the sword of the Spirit with our own evil. Rust causes damage. It can quickly poison the bloodstream. Picture a surgeon operating on the heart of his patient and not using a sterile, a clean scapple.

The use, the action of the sword can be corrupted by our own evil hearts.

“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:” Ephesians 4:15

Have you ever said the right thing but with a wrong heart?

I have. May our LORD have mercy!

We can be scripturally correct while simultaneously being spiritually wrong.

It’s not only the truth that matters, what also matters is what good work that truth has done in the vessel delivering that truth.

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Colossians 4:6

It’s not only what we say but also how we say it, how we deliver it.

When we delivered God’s Word to people with grace, we demonstrate how that grace is working in our own lives. This sends a message to the hearer …. that he or she can be blessed by God also…… with that same grace and truth to make them free.

I should ask myself: Am I preaching to people or at people?

“Speech” as in Colossians 4:6, is when we speak God’s Word, when we wield the sword of His Spirit which is His Word.

We are much more ready to receive food when its seasoned well right? …. in the same way people will more readily, eagerly receive or  accept the meat of God Word when it’s seasoned with God’s grace working in us.

How many of us realize that people will be much more ready to receive the truth if and when they see it working graciously in us?

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23

It’s not only what we deliver, it’s how we deliver it.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” Proverbs 16:6

We speak His truth in His mercy out of grateful hearts that He’s been so very merciful to us.

Someone has wisely noted that when ministering to others…..

“When we take the time to listen, we earn the right to speak.”

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20  For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” James 1:19-20

God’s Word seems to clearly indicate that “Mercy and truth” are to be married together.

“Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.” Proverbs 20:28

A sign of Christian maturity, of growing up into Christ, being conformed and transformed by Him, is that we speak His truth in His love.

“15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:  …   29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:15, 29-32

Like myself, does anyone else listening know that God wants to do a deeper work, a deeper circumcising, of surgery on their hearts?

We are talking about the Word of God and how we are to put it forth, how we are wielding the sword of the Spirit.

Think about your own response to a nurse administering the good oil in a nurturing vs a rough fashion. Is she smoothing that healing oil into your skin in a nurturing fashion or is she treating you harshly, roughly?

Seems that the depth of our own dying determines the height of the resurrection!

What are we “moved with”? What moves or motivates us?

“Moved with compassion” appears five times in the Gospels concerning Jesus ministering to others.

“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.” Matthew 9:36

“And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” Matthew 14:14

“Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.” Matthew 18:27

“And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.” Mark 1:41

“And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.” Mark 6:34

The fact that Jesus harshly rebuked the self righteous religionist of His day in no way grants us license to wield a rusted sword indiscriminately, to people who are simply seeking. No.

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” Psalms 19:14

“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.” Psalms 42:7

Raising up requires dying downward. The cross life is central to the Christian life.

PRAYER: LORD I want to know You more, know You better. Let it be, please dear LORD. I love You. Please do a deeper work in me so You can do a more blessed work through me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

“Lord, I Believe; Help Thou Mine Unbelief” [podcast]

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:23-24

God wants us to depend on HIM, not self. What a prayer from this father who was seeking Jesus for his possessed, embattled son!

“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:24

Now that is a great prayer for us today—“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:24

Is this not kin to the prayer Christ’s disciples prayed to Him—“And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith” (Luke 17:5) ?

Some ask “Lord, how can I increase MY faith?”

Read that again.

It’s not how I can increase my faith! No. That is all self-centered. We pray as did the apostles, “Lord, Increase our faith.” In other words, You do it please dear LORD!

There are two ways the Word prescribes that we walk in more faith:

Asking for it (Luke 17:5)

Reading and heeding the Word for it—“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).

“9:24 The father expressed the paradox of faith and unbelief experienced by God’s people in all ages. ‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!’ We want to believe, yet find ourselves filled with doubt. We hate this inward, unreasonable contradiction, yet seem to fight it in vain.” Believer’s Bible Commentary

Another person commenting on this text writes:

“Help thou mine unbelief – That is, assist me against it. Give me a power to believe.”

“[Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief] A prayer that all can pray with great profit.” Dake

“VII. The profession of faith which the poor man made hereupon (Mrk_9:24); He cried out, ‘Lord, I believe; I am fully persuaded both of thy power and of thy pity; my cure shall not be prevented by the want of faith; Lord, I believe.’ He adds a prayer for grace to enable him more firmly to rely upon the assurances he had of the ability and willingness of Christ to save; Help thou my unbelief. Note, 1. Even those who through grace can say, Lord, I believe, have reason to complain of their unbelief; that they cannot so readily apply to themselves, and their own case, the word of Christ as they should, no so cheerfully depend upon it. 2. Those that complain of unbelief, must look up to Christ for grace to help them against it, and his grace shall be sufficient for them. ‘Help mine unbelief, help me to a pardon for it, help me with power against it; help out what is wanting in my faith with thy grace, the strength of which is perfected in our weakness.’ Matthew Henry

Learning to trust and depend upon our LORD:

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” James 1:5-8

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

“And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” Mark 10:27

“All it takes is a mustard seed of faith to move mountains. Meaning even the smallest of faith can do miracles. It is belief in God not in self that matters. Mark 11:22 says ‘Have faith in God.’ He will provide the increase. Even the disciples prayed for more faith! And we know them to be men of great faith!” Karen Cochran

LET’S PRAY: Holy Father, we come to You now, because we know You are our Source for all blessings and answered prayer. Yet, we lack faith and ask You now to “Increase our faith” and to “help thou mine unbelief.” Please fill in dear LORD where we lack, where we are weak. We know You are all powerful, loving, and desire to and are ready to answer our prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Run that Ye May Obtain [podcast]

Don’t Walk. “Run.”

Saints we are finishing honest, holy, humble, repentant – crucified with Christ and confessing and never covering any sin (Proverbs 28:13).

1 Corinthians 9:16-27

16  For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17  For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18  What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19  For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20  And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21  To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

22  To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23  And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25  And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26  I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
