1 John 3:16-22

16  Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

17  But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

18  My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

19  And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

20  For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

21  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

22  And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.”

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19

When is our conscience and heart clean? How can we live with a perpetual smile that emanates from a pure, a clean heart?

Only when we literally obey God. 1 John 3

“But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.” Luke 11:41

Our conscience and heart can only be clear and clean when we are correctly, sufficiently, generously giving – which is the correct stewardship of the resources God is giving us.

“11:41 The Lord realized how covetous and selfish these Pharisees were, so He told His host first to give alms of such things as he had. If he could pass this basic test of love to others, then indeed all things would be clean to him. H. A. Ironside comments:

When the love of God fills the heart so that one will be concerned about the needs of others, then only will these outward observances have any real value. He who is constantly gathering up for himself, in utter indifference to the poor and needy about him, gives evidence that the love of God does not dwell in him.” Believer’s Bible Commentary

“Give alms of such things as ye have – Meaning either what was within the dishes spoken of before; or what was within their houses or power: or what they had at hand, for so (this) is used by the purest Greek writers. Cease from rapine (stealing): far from spoiling (robbing) the poor by wicked exactions, rather give them alms of every thing you possess; and when a part of every thing you have is sincerely consecrated to God for the use of the poor, then all that remains will be clean unto you; you will have the blessing of God in your basket and store, and every thing will be sanctified to you.” Adam Clarke

“Notice Luk_11:41, which means that our faith, love and joy are to be shared with others. Let us be munificent and generous in self-giving. There is no law of the tithe here! Give all!” FB Meyer
