The Glorious Book of Colossians

IF asked today to give a summation of Colossians 1-2 today, how would that go?

“Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.” Colossians 2:18-19

As we just read in the above passage of Scripture, divine nourishment only flows to God’s people as Christ is lifted up, exalted, and worshiped in spirit and in truth as the only “Head” of the body of believers He died to save.

“As the pyramid rises high above the plains of Egypt, so Christ towers above all human teachers and founders of sects and religions. He is … ‘a man of colossal’ (we may well add, of infinite) ‘dimensions.’ He found disciples and worshipers among the Jews, although he identified himself with none of their sects and traditions; among the Greeks, although he proclaimed no new system of philosophy; among the Romans, although he fought no battle, and founded no worldly empire; among the Hindus, who despise all men of low caste; … All His words and all his actions, while they were fully adapted to the occasions which called them forth, retain their force and applicability undiminished to all ages and nations. Glory Robbing Wolves

“And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer (true worship); but ye have made it a den of thieves.” Matthew 21:13

Nothing has changed. – “There is NO NEW THING under the sun” says Ecclesiastes 1:9. The false leaders of Christ’s day had removed the glory from the LORD and were using their positions for self-gain and putting the emphasis on mere men and their greedy hearts. Were we not warned of this over and over? (Matthew 7:15; 24:5, 11, 24; 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 2 Timothy 4:2-4; 1 John 4:1-6; Revelation 3:11, etc.)

Today, most who claim to know Christ only want to be saved from hell but don’t want to truly give their lives to Christ and get to know Him which is the whole goal and thrust and occupation of the genuine Christian life – Everything is now of and about Christ in the lives of all who are truly regenerated and abiding intimate with Christ (John 15:1-16; 2 Corinthians 5:17-18; Galatians 2:20; 6:14). The false leaders, which make up 99% of all who hold positions of leadership today in the apostate church world, are giving the people exactly what they want – the lie that they can have the heavenly crown without the daily cross (Luke 9:23-24; Galatians 5:24; 2 Timothy 4:3-4). To please the people, they are robbing the Redeemer of the glory due only to His blessed and holy name! This is pure, soul-damning idolatry!

“I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” Isaiah 42:8

Jesus told us that He is “the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8) Did you know this? The increase of your personal knowledge of Christ is at hand. Christology is simply the study of the divine Person of Christ Himself.

Most local gatherings have been made a den of thieves where Christ has and is being robbed of the glory due only His holy name! Instead, the pastors, the visions, the whims, and the fleshly desires of the people gathering are exalted and Christ is only mentioned in name, enough to keep the naïve’ faithful faithful. They are “not holding the Head” Jesus Christ up in true worship. It’s all about them and not the very Son of God who is “Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)

The apostle Paul wrote Colossians to combat the dangerous false teaching at Colosse that was unseating, displacing, and usurping the centrality and infinite supremacy of the divine Person of Jesus Christ in creation, revelation, redemption, and in His church – as the only “Head” of His true body. Today there is no end to the programs, paganism, pop psychology, and people that have been lifted up above the “Head” of the body of Christ Jesus Christ. In Colossians Paul establishes the divinely-ordained, non-negotiable centrality of Christ in creation, redemption, and among His beloved people. How well do you know the book of Colossians? Suggestion: Read Colossians 5 times straight through without stopping (KJV). This will instill and permeate your heart and mind with a synthetic knowledge and flow of the transmission of the words of Scripture in this divinely-inspired 4-chapter book. Then go back and study through it, hi-lighting verses, cross-referencing, researching deeper.

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.” Colossians 1:14-20 (KJV)

It simply does not matter what replaces Christ Jesus at the heart of worship – it’s idolatry!

God Answers Idolaters According to Their Own Hearts and Wicked Desires

“Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me. 2 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? 4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; 5 That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. 6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.” Ezekiel 14:1-6

Fun, games, the new building project, ridiculously shallow fad books, coffee, gyms, and the like all crowd Jesus Christ right out from amongst the people claiming to be gathering in His name. This is spiritual Babylon which is filled with idolatry and the LORD says to “Come out from her, my people.”

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. 6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. 7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. 8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.” Revelation 18:4-8

Isn’t it amazing how that the One who made and bled to save a body unto Himself is ousted from most assemblies that claim to be His? Isn’t it astounding how vile wolves celebrate and inspire their gullible audiences to read Gospel-less, pagan, New Age cult books like The Shack, Purpose Driven Life, and Your Best Life Now and yet never get people into God’s Word? The fact is, that most in leadership today are not in God’s Word themselves. If they were, they would be getting others into it as Christ and His apostles commanded (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Timothy 4:6, 16, etc.). These hirelings are simply building a local social club business and using Christ to do so. Judgment Day is on the way (Matthew 7:19-29).

“And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.” Colossians 2:4-10

Modern Day Cult of Personality Exposed [podcast]

What is the Cult of Personality?

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1

Beware when you see any mere man enshrined, basically worshipped by his followers. This is all too common in today’s church world and sometimes it’s very subtle. When people begin putting what a mere man says above what God says in His Word, when they quote him instead of the Bible, you know you have a cult.

“A cult of personality, or a cult of the leader, is the result of an effort to create an idealized and heroic image of an admirable leader, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.”‘

CS Lewis has a cult following today, 100%. I’ve encountered it first hand. These people don’t care what you show them as far as the blatant falsehoods he spoke, and have soul tied their affections to him and will defend him no matter what.

A quick search on “what CS Lewis said about the Catholic church”…

“As an Anglican, C.S. Lewis shared many beliefs with the Catholic Church, including the Real Presence in the Eucharist, the necessity of confession, and a belief in Purgatory. However, he explicitly rejected papal authority, the concept of papal infallibility, and certain Marian doctrines.

Lewis held a deeply sacramental and traditional view of Christianity, which aligned closely with Catholic theology:

The Sacraments: He regularly went to confession to a priest and viewed the Eucharist as central to the faith.

The Afterlife: He famously argued that “our souls demand Purgatory”, writing that we would naturally want to be cleansed of our sins before standing in God’s presence.

Devotion: He had a high view of saints and appreciated traditional liturgical practices.”

The same is true for modern day celebrities such as Candace Owens. On a recent live broadcast where she interviewed a man, he showed her live on air, that she was wrong about several things and kindly asked her to apologize several times. Regrettably, Candace was unwilling to apologize, and most of her cult followers backed her up, cheered her on.

She was called to account for false info and didn’t apologize when asked to.

Her followers cheered her on, never stopping to question things.

Their hearts are set on her not Christ (Colossians 3:1-4).

No matter WHAT she says, they believe it.

Wow.

Jesus says:

“I receive not honour from men. … 44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?” John 5:41, 44

By saying this, Jesus condemns putting trust in any mere man.

Jesus makes it clear here that anyone who puts their heart affections in a mere man or woman, is unable to believe on the LORD Jesus Christ for eternal life.

“And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. 7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” 1 Corinthians 4:6-7

“4:6 He first explains that in speaking about the Christian ministry and the tendency to follow human leaders (3:5-4:5), he used himself and Apollos as the examples. The Corinthians were not forming parties around Paul and Apollos alone, but also around other men who were then in their church. However, out of a sense of Christian courtesy and delicacy, Paul transferred the entire matter to himself and Apollos so that by their example the saints would learn not to have exaggerated opinions of their leaders or to gratify their pride by the formation of parties. He wanted the saints to evaluate everything and everyone by the Scriptures.
4:7 If one Christian teacher is more gifted than another, it is because God made him so. Everything he has, he received from the Lord. In fact it is true of all of us that everything we have has been given to us by God. That being the case, why should we be proud or puffed up? “Sentence” here means verdict.

Prayer of Repentance to be Restored to the LORD: Holy Father, in the name of Jesus Christ and by His precious blood He shed to make me one with You, I come to you—in my sinful state. LORD, I openly acknowledge that I have departed from You and sinfully rebelled against You in the sin of idolatry. Right this moment, if never before, I call upon You, Holy Father, asking You to forgive my sins, to change my life, to break me to the core of my being. The Cross and the Throne of Grace [podcast]

The safest place in the universe is in the cross of Christ: “your life is hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).

Our place of protection is in the love walk with the LORD where we express our love for Him in obedience to Him. Jesus commanded that we deny self, take up the cross daily and follow Him. We are full of troubles and so it should be easy to relinquish all to Him!
