Are Jesus’ People Made Free to Live in Sin? [podcast]
“Great message about keeping our hearts pure before the Lord! Thank you. The other day I had anxiety creep into my heart. It basically took over my heart that day! As my day progressed it got worse. I went to the Lord in prayer seeking His face. He showed me clearly what was in my heart! Anxiety! I was broken hearted as that kind of anxiety had not entered my soul in quite some time. It became clear I had some worries that I had not surrendered to Him and let build up! I repented and asked the Lord to forgive my lack of faith! Mark 9:24 “Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief!” It seems as you live the crucified life you no longer can bare any sin in your life. It must be taken to the cross as soon as possible because you begin to feel yourself separated from God. Which is exactly what happens. (Isaiah 59:2, Psalm 66:18). Psalm 51:4 David said, “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned”. The Lord restored to me the joy of thy salvation v12 just as He did the Psalmist! Hallelujah!” Karen Cochran
“For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Ecclesiastes 7:20
“There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not – לא יחטא lo yechta, that may not sin. There is not a man upon earth, however just he may be, and habituated to do good, but is peccable – liable to commit sin; and therefore should continually watch and pray, and depend upon the Lord. But the text does not say, the just man does commit sin, but simply that he may sin; and so our translators have rendered it in 1Sa_2:25, twice in 1Ki_8:31, 1Ki_8:46, and 2Ch_6:36; and the reader is requested to consult the note on 1Ki_8:46, where the proper construction of this word may be found, and the doctrine in question is fully considered.” Adam Clarke
Ecclesiastes 7:20 is often used among the excuse-making eternal securists to justify instead of confessing sin….
“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13
Are God’s people made free to live in sin or made free to overcome sin?
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Romans 6:1-2
Dear LORD Jesus, please help me to love You more, to love You supremely.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
If we love Jesus, truly, supremely, will we not delight in being honest, transparent before His holy eyes?
“It’s a matter of the heart. We can say we love Jesus with our mouths (lip service) but the Lord looks upon the heart! Are we sincerely devoted to Him? Do we love Him supremely above all? Are we participating in the great commission as we are commanded to do? These are all ways we show Jesus we love Him! He is first above no other! A fully devoted heart!” Karen Cochran
IF you refuse to be completely honest with God, you are as sure for hell as if you were already there.
Getting Honest: Memorize: Luke 8:15; Proverbs 28:13.
The walk of the true follower of Christ is not denial of sin and failure but rather readily admitting and denouncing it as one ever, continually draws nigh afresh to Christ! (James 4:6-10)
Maintaining a posture of complete dependency is the biblical model for “true holiness,” wholeness in Christ, sanctification (Ephesians 4:25).
Are we not given severe warning to do such lest we, like the Israelites, fall into sin and be blocked out of the promised land of eternal glory? See 1 Corinthians 9:27-10:12.
“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12
God is good in spite of us.
Jesus saved us in spite of us – not because of us!
“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” Romans 7:18
There is always the need for conviction, self-examination, fruit-inspection, repentance, and confession of sin (Proverbs 28:13; 2 Corinthians 13:5; 1 John 1:6-2:2).
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10
Prayer: Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask You now to help me love You more, to love You supremely. Please identify and correct in me any and all false notions I have of You. I here and now acknowledge this moment before You that You expect and require me to be completely honest about any sin I have or may commit and to confess it to You for what it is, sin. In Jesus’ name.
