Apostasy
Wells Without Water [podcast]
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:” Amos 8:11
False prophets, false ministries have induced upon the people of these last days a great “famine” – of the worse kind. Many who listen to them have not gotten into God’s Word for themselves and are therefore deceived, misled, and this is due to not knowing and living God’s Word for themselves. This is something our LORD commands:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
The LORD never intended for preachers to be an end in themselves. They are simply to be elders AMONG the people and not overlords in whom people trust (1 Peter 5:1-6). And they are to simply preach the Holy Scriptures (Nehemiah 8:8).
How can God’s Word get into me unless I get into it?
The LORD calls those who feed His sheep to drop HIS truth on them – into their hearts, and nothing else.
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4
What’s God attempting to warn us about when He uses the words “clouds and wind without rain”, “wells without water”, and “clouds they are without water”?
Think about that. The LORD is warning us about false ministers, false ministries which are supposed to be wells to refresh yet contain no water, no substance. And, picture being in a desert, desperately thirsty and seeing clouds coming on the horizon, yet they come and go, they pass over you without depositing any water, rain, refreshment, reinvigorating substance.
“Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like CLOUDS AND WIND WITHOUT RAIN.” Proverbs 25:14
“These are WELLS WITHOUT WATER, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.” 2 Peter 2:17
“These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: CLOUDS THEY ARE WITHOUT WATER (contain little or no divine substance), carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;” Jude 12
So, the LORD is warning us to discern. Ministries void of divine substance are like …
- “clouds and wind without rain” (Proverbs 25:14)
- “wells without water” (2 Peter 2:17)
- “clouds they are without water” (Jude 12)
