“My People Know Not the Judgment of the Lord” [podcast]

Sinners, people living in darkness, are playing at, are hoping against hope that God will have mercy on them if they die in sin. Not going to happen.

“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Ecclesiastes 8:11

Those who are presently living in darkness vainly believe that because His judgment hasn’t gotten to them yet, they are free to continue in sin. Not (Romans 6:1-2).

“Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return? Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return (repent). I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle. Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD. How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?” ~ Jeremiah 8:4-9

Many of God’s people whose hearts have been hardened through sin (Hebrews 3:12-15) say with insolence and impudence, “What have I done that would require me to repent!?” Or, “What did I do to need to repent!?” Can you feel this attitude they exhibit? His people have been blinded and “hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13.) They are no longer in touch with the holiness and resulting judgment of the God who once saved them. “But my people know not the judgment of the LORD” (Jeremiah 8:7).

The LORD instructed us to “be zealous therefore, and repent” (Revelation 3:19). This crass attitude toward the holiness of the LORD and sin is exhibited by some today who claim to be saved. The lawless myth from those who are “turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness” has fruit (Jude 4). It shows up in the lives of those who believe they are saved and yet not living in holy communion with the LORD Jesus Christ, but Jesus asked this rhetorical question “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46).

The OSAS message— “ye shall not surely die”—insulates people from their need to be holy (Genesis 3:4). Isn’t this what it did to Adam and Eve? Didn’t this lie and the way it affected them lead to the very fall of man? The same falsehood is being perpetrated upon the church world today and having the same effect on the hearts and destinies of people.

You may wish to diligently study this passage in Jeremiah 8. There is much to behold here. We see that Jeremiah’s day is the same as our day. Though they had many seemingly wise men who supposedly knew the Word of God and were scribes (wrote books), they were totally deluded and unable to discern that the wrath of God was getting ready to fall upon them for their unbelief and rebellion against Him who is holy. See also Romans 1:18.
Concerning this text (in Jeremiah 8:7), Donald Stamps, in the Life in the Spirit Study Bible, writes:

“‘MY PEOPLE KNOW NOT THE JUDGMENT OF THE LORD.’ The people were ignorant of God’s law. Moreover, their leaders so distorted the Word of God and falsified its message that the people were assured they could sin without condemnation (v. 8). In a similar manner, the apostle Peter speaks of those who twist the word of God to their own destruction and to the destruction of others (cf. 2 Pet. 3:16). We must beware of any ministers who teach that those who willfully continue in sin and rebellion against God will still inherit salvation and the kingdom of God (see 1 Cor. 6:9-10).”

As was the case in the Garden, the occasion the devil chose to first issue forth this “ye shall not surely die” lie, was in the sanctuary of God. So it is today—right in our midst! Beloved, be discerning! Beware! Be biblical! In his book The Great Gospel Deception, David Servant writes:

“False teachers are very deceptive. They have some exterior indications of being genuine. They may call Jesus their Lord, prophesy, cast out demons and perform miracles. But the ‘sheep’s clothing’ only hides the ‘ravenous wolf.’ They aren’t true sheep. How can it be known if they are true or false? Their true character can be known by examining their ‘fruits.’

“What are the fruit of which Jesus was speaking? They are the fruits of obedience to all He has taught. Those who are true, teach and do the will of the Father. Those who are false, teach what is not true and ‘practice lawlessness’ (7:23). Our responsibility, then, is to compare their teaching and lives with what Jesus taught and commanded.

“False teachers abound today in the church, and we should not be surprised, because both Jesus and Paul forewarned us that, as the end approaches, we should expect nothing less (see Matt. 24:11; 2 Tim. 4:3-4). The most prevalent false prophets of our day are those who teach that heaven awaits the unholy. They are responsible for the eternal damnation of millions of people. Of them, John Wesley wrote, ‘How terrible is this! -when the ambassadors of God turn agents for the devil! – when they who are commissioned to teach men the way to heaven do in fact teach them the way to hell…If it be asked, why, who ever did…this? …I answer, Ten thousand wise and honourable men; even all those, of whatever denomination, who encourage the proud, the trifler, the passionate, the lover of the world, the man of pleasure, the unjust or unkind, the easy, careless, harmless, useless creatures, the man who suffers no reproach for righteousness’ sake, to imagine he is in the way to heaven. These are false prophets in the highest sense of the word. These are traitors both to God and man…They are continually peopling the realms of the night; and whenever they follow the poor souls they have destroyed, ‘hell shall be moved from beneath to meet them at their coming!’” p. 164, 165
