By This Shall All Men Know

“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” Colossians 3:14

PRAYER: Father, in the name of Jesus, please help us to love You with our whole hearts, to be filled with Your holy love whereby we will love and treat others as we would have others treat us (Matthew 22:37-40).

BEING ALL-knowing, or acting as if you are, is not the measure of your relationship with God. In fact, even if we could all-knowing, if we don’t have HIS love in our hearts and manifested in our lives, we are nothing (1 Corinthians 13). Correct knowledge is very important and sound doctrine, and so is doing it (James 1:22). Sound doctrine teaches that without LOVE (the way God defines it), we are nothing and are not right with Him. “He that loveth not, knoweth not God.” (1 John 4:8) Could He have said it any clearer? Memorize this please. May God bless us to be vessels of His great love for others. This is the proof that we know Him and how He makes Himself known to men.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, IF ye have LOVE one to another.” John 13:35

Search out this matter in God’s Word. Make it your priority. Learn it. Pray to Him for it. Be consumed in His love. Keep yourself in His love (Jude 21). Grow, increase in it (1 Thess. 4:9-10). Find every single verse in the Bible on this essential subject that is so very close to the heart of Him who “is love.” (1 John 4:16) Write the verses and their references on index cards so you can learn, memorize, meditate upon them, and do them.  “Ask and ye shall receive” says our LORD (Matt. 7:7). Read the love chapter below and consider reading and drinking it in at least once weekly.

1 Corinthians 13

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
