Bold vs Brave
WHEN Christ’s apostles were beaten and jailed for doing HIS will, they prayed for even more boldness….
“And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:29-31
We see lots of “Christian” stuff today using the word “brave” ….
“Brave” appears no where in Holy Scripture (unless in fake news “bibles”). “Bold” appear 11 times in God’s Word, the King James Bible.
Saints, let trash the fake “bibles” and get back to the King James Bible.
Isaiah De Castro magnificently captures the essence, the difference between boldness and mere braveness, when he writes:
“Boldness is the right term… Because there’s the brave man who is not bold … But there is no bold man that is not brave, for boldness is the highest form of bravery.”
“Bold” is the right word. As is always the case, the King James got it exact. Boldness that glorifies Christ, emanates from God in the dead and buried saint, and is not conjured up in the flesh.
You can’t conjure up boldness, conviction, valiancy. It must come out of the cross life, the crucified life with Christ – from which all fear is vanquished (Romans 6; 1 John 4:16-18). Then we know that “The righteous are bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1)
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5
The counterfeits (editors) who created the new fake news “bibles” were forced to choose the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. best words. The divinely ordained King James Bible scholars had already chosen the most fitting, accurate words. You see, in order to obtain a copyright to earn royaltie$, you have to have a unique product. God had already given the English speaking world His preserved Word in the King James Bible – just as He promised to do (Psalms 12:6-7).
Brave, bravery comes out of the flesh while boldness comes out of the Spirit in the lives of Jesus’ abiding saints. There’s a reason God used the word “bold” and not brave. There’s a difference.
Divine boldness is forged on the inside of the disciple of Christ by the conviction of the Word of God and the work of the Holy Ghost. Boldness is a work of the LORD emanating from an intimate, obedient relationship with Him. Holy boldness.
Here’s a great prayer for us! Christ’s apostle Paul prayed for His body and we should pray this for our own lives and other believers:
“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;” Ephesians 3:16
Bravery in the flesh and emboldened by/in Christ are mutually exclusive!
When we synthesis (collate) the whole message of Holy Scripture, we know that nothing of the flesh can please God. It must be GOD Himself doing the work in and through His saints – and that comes from the crucified life (2 Corinthians 4:10-12; Galatians 2:20, etc.).
“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:8
Bravery is of “the flesh” and cannot please God.
“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12-13
Divine boldness is a work of God, forged “in the inner man” of all who are crucified with Christ, abiding in union with the Savior (John 15; Ephesians 3:16), etc. Life in Christ.
In the list below, note closely phrases such as “bold in our God” and “bold IN CHRIST.” (1 Thessalonians 2:2; Philemon 1:8) Biblically, boldness is associated in conjunction with union in Christ.
“Bold” in God’s Word:
The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1).
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles (Acts 13:46).
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me (Romans 10:20).
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you (2 Corinthians 10:1).
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh (2 Corinthians 10:2).
I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also (2 Corinthians 11:21 ).
And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear (Philippians 1:14).
But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention (1 Thessalonians 2:2).
Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient (Philemon 1:8).
Dictionary definitions can help at times and yet, are not to be fully relied upon. The Webster’s 1828 is the best. Scripture teaches us how to decipher truth in 1 Corinthians 2:13 – Scripture upon Scripture, line upon line (Isaiah 28:10, 13). Interpreting Scripture with Scripture.
