What is the “Covering Doctrine?” To put it simply, it’s the doctrine that claims all Christians must be under the authority (covering) of a church leader or mother organization to act with ‘authority,’ be protected from the attacks of the devil, or receive God’s blessings. It came from the shepherding movement of the 70’s which was really rooted in the cultural revolution of the 60’s, and utterly failed a short time afterwards.

The face of the shepherding movement, along with it’s overblown ‘covering doctrine’ was Bob Mumford. Although in 1989 he said:
Accountability, personal training under the guidance of another, and effective pastoral care are needed biblical concepts. True spiritual maturity will require that they be preserved. These biblical realities must also carry the limits indicated by the New Testament. However, to my personal pain and chagrin, these particular emphases very easily lent themselves to an unhealthy submission resulting in perverse and unbiblical obedience to human leaders. Many of these abuses occurred within the sphere of my own responsibility.

It rears its head every now and then and comes from the felt idea that certain Christian movements, parachurch organizations, and even missionaries are too loose and that there’s not enough accountability, credibility, or control ‘over them.’ In the past 5 years, I’ve probably heard the question, “Who’s your covering?” at least 50 times. Other versions of the question are;

“Under what authority do you minister here?”

“Who do you answer to?”

It’s as if legitimate ministry can be determined by “the right answer” to those questions. Answering those sorts of questions in a cavalier way, for example, “Jesus/God is my authority (covering),” is thought to be rebellious, of poor attitude, or having an inclination towards disobedience. If continued, it usually results in one being forced out from under that covering or “umbrella of protection” for the ‘destruction of the flesh so that the soul might be saved’ which is really code talk for trying to justify religious abuse.

It’s one of my favorite exchanges in scripture when the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders approached Jesus saying:

“By what authority are you doing these things?” and they also asked, “And who gave you authority to do this?” Jesus replied,
“I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!”

They responded, “We don’t know,” because either way their answer would have obliterated their ill conceived covering doctrine, (Mark 11:27-33) It was one of the most disassembling questions, doctrinally speaking, of Jesus’ ministry. It was also one of the wisest of all possible answers He could have given to those challenging Him.

Given mankind’s propensity to form hierarchical systems and structures which are diametrically opposed to Jesus’ teachings in Luke 22:25-26, Matthew 20:25 and Mark 10:42, we have purposed to expose these 7 lies of the doctrine;

- - Covering encourages accountability.
  - Covering procures legitimacy.
  - Covering provides safety.
  - Covering encourages fidelity
  - Covering transfers authority
  - Covering ordains ministry
  - Covering leads to prosperity

These are just some of the lies that have been birthed from the fundamentally flawed principles within the movement. Sin is redefined as disobedience to God’s ‘delegated’ authorities. Grace is filtered through fickle feelings of generosity in others (those who cover), and is often mitigated without objective reasoning. Obedience to the Lord requires obedience to God’s delegated authorities and across all realms such as employers, church leaders, and civil authorities. Bucking any leadership in any way ‘puts you outside of the covering.’

Further, rebellion against God’s delegated authority is rebellion against God Himself. Rebellion to authority opens one up to the demonic realm results in being deceived. People should live by the principle of obedience rather than by discernment and objective reasoning. People should always obey authority [usually the pastor] unless they are clearly instructed to violate scripture [but he is the final interpreter of scripture, so…] ‘Spiritual authority and blessing flows to those who suffer under authority.’ God does not judge people on the fruit of their life but on how faithfully they followed authority. And, those outside the local church and the covering of its leaders are at serious risk of spiritual attack. While these principles may contain nuggets or even smaller bits of truth here and there, there are none the less widely misinterpreted and misapplied.*

In addition to the 7 lies listed above, I think these are 7 possible negative fruit:

1. 1. Covering doctrine distorts the gospel
  2. Covering doctrine is disobedience
  3. Covering doctrine is manipulative, fear-driven, and abusive
  4. Covering doctrine reinforces and widens the clergy/laity divide.
  5. Covering doctrine usurps Jesus’ authority.
  6. Covering doctrine is idolatry.
  7. Covering doctrine creates ungodly dependency.

Those that insist on the covering doctrine as a valid and biblical teaching, can be equated with modern-day shamans, charlatans, and shysters. The doctrine itself is one of the key catalyzers of the destructive prosperity gospel and ultimately kills ministry and mission. In part II of this series, we’ll talk about 7 countermeasures to the doctrine of coverings, but I’d like to ask you a few questions:

America has for at least decades rejected God, even those who claim they are saved. They are bound for eternal damnation. They are “wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:”

Is America what it used to be? I think not. America is reaping what it has sowed. More on God’s judgment on nations in a moment.

So why would present judgment upon the USA be a surprise to the true born again Bible saints? Would this not prove that we ourselves are still in darkness?

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,” Romans 1:22

Business as Usual? I don’t think so. Redemptive withdrawal at work – where God is removing His hand of protection over the USA due to the sin and unrepentant rebellion of the people. Notice how this starts – when we live in sin, we are unrepentant, we are digging out own pit.

“The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken. 16 The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah. 17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Psalms 9:16-17

But what really sticks out is v3 ‘without natural affection,’. Isn’t this exactly what we are seeing? How did we get here?

What sins was Sodom committing when the LORD judged them?

PFA = Pride, Fulness of Bread, and Abundance of idleness.

The Sins of Sodom:

Sins Jerusalem cited for in Ezekiel 16:49-51:

Pride (arrogance),
Fulness of Bread (gluttony, hoarding),
Abundance of Idleness (idle, lazy),
did not help those in need due to preoccupation with self-worship (not generous in spreading God’s wealth to His people and work)
haughty
committed abomination (rampant fornication – just as in the days leading up to the Noahic flood. See Genesis 6)

Judgment is at hand.

HERE IS WHERE WE ARE – There’s a timing of judgment for each nation. The LORD has called America to repent for decades and she has refused and will not be repenting. She has wiped her mouth like she did nothing wrong. The people will not acknowledge their gross sin and only wants her freedom back in order to go back to living as she pleases but has no conviction of her sin to lead her to true repentance.

“AT WHAT INSTANT”

God has a specific timing for the judgment on each nation.

Jeremiah 18:10

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

7 At what INSTANT I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;

8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

Clear proof that America is under divine judgment. Rampant injustice such as judges giving bond to murderers and rapists so they can (and they are) go out and do it again. Read Isaiah 3.

Over 60 million murdered in cold blood precious babies, and county, with no voice crying out for abortion to cease.

No political party or candidate can save America from divine judgment. Only repentance could have done such—yet those claiming to be God’s people have refused (Jeremiah 18:1-10; 2 Chronicles 7:14).

Most other nations are not under such judgment at this time and this underscores the timing of God in judging individual nations. Those who live elsewhere or travel can testify that other nations are not the cascading catastrophe the United States presently is. The LORD told us that He has an “instant” in time, a specific time for the judgment of each nation – and in the end the final judgment of all nations (Jeremiah 18:1-10; Matthew 25:31-46).

“I see this on men’s faces all over America. The women have rotted their bones with their words! They destroy him and tear him down so much so that he stops fighting and surrenders to her. At the time of this writing, nearly $1 million has been donated to the wicked woman’s defense fund by other wicked women who are defending her murders of her own three precious children and blaming her husband for it.

CONCERNING the woman who just murdered her three precious children, her attorney is using the “mental health episode” excuse. In other words, in the USA it’s okay to murder, even your own children, since after all, perhaps the pharmakeia drugs weren’t working good enough. So, your punishment is minimal. There are consequences for our decisions.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Galatians 6:7-8

We have all sinned against our Maker and are in need of His forgiveness before it’s too late. Call on Jesus today if you wish to be forgiven. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). America is over but eternity lies before each of us.

The Killing Field known as the United States of America is under Divine Judgment – repent now, before it’s too late. You are going to burn in hell, consciously, irrevocably. Make Peace with God now. Jesus is calling you to Himself.

The right to abort, to murder one’s own precious innocent baby has given way to this exponential murderous evil – including murdering your own born babies. ALL abortion is murder and anyone in any way involved, has the blood of innocent babies on their wicked hands.

The lies Trump told to get into office were all a big ruse, a trick, such as “We’re going to release the Epstein files.” Now it seems we know why he hasn’t released them, but it’s all coming to light (Matthew 10:26).

Evil leaders are God’s judgment upon nations. The previous administration was just as horrid though perhaps in other ways.

Proverbs 28:15: “As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.”

Proverbs 29:2: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”

Ecclesiastes 5:8: “If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.”

Isaiah 10:1-2: “Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!”

Antichrist or Christ? [podcast]

Who is truly reigning in my heart?

“But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.” Luke 19:27

Am I an antichrist?

Are there professing Christians who have “the spirit of antichrist” reigning in their hearts, their personal lives?

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

Sitting upon the throne in the heart of this temple would make me an antichrist.

Anti as in antichrist means in place of: It’s the “spirit of antichrist” working through Satan’s false ministers that robs the glory from Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 11:12-15; Colossians 1:18; 2:8-10, 18-19; 1 John 4:1-3, etc.).

We know when “that spirit of antichrist” is working through a rebel when he speaks contrary to God’s Word (John 8:47; 1 John 4:3). “That spirit of antichrist” – anti (in place of) Christ is anything that contradicts what God’s Word says, working to subvert divinely stated truth while posing as Christ’s minister (2 Corinthians 11:12-15).

“That spirit of antichrist” is witnessed in the human agents, possessed by devils who make it all about something, anything but Christ. The emphasis is taken away from Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:18-19). They make it about the church, Zionism/Israel, a nation, a genealogical people, a mere pastor, a man or men, an organization, a creed, a fraternal order, etc. This becomes clearer as the word “antichrist” is broken down. Anti means in place of.

How Has Women Leaving Their Homes Hurt Culture?

Many women despise my teachings on women being keepers at home. They will often give me names of all the great and powerful women who left their homes and did good things in order to back up their defense that women don’t need to be keepers at home. They will tell me that I am shaming women for teaching these things. They confuse shaming with conviction. God’s Word convicts them. If they feel shame, they are really feeling conviction. If they are doing what they know is right, no one would be able to shame them.

How has women leaving their homes hurt culture? It has hurt culture in many, many ways. Children are no longer being raised by their own mothers. They are being raised by daycare workers and teachers. “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame” (Proverbs 29:15). Children need a lot of teaching, training, and discipline. They aren’t receiving this if their mothers are away from them most of the day. These mothers are giving their best to others instead of to their children. These children are bringing shame to their mothers as they grow up. We are told this in God’s Word. All of the people we see rioting and burning down buildings were most likely not raised by a mother full time.

Women leaving their homes have hurt marriage. Women now initiate divorce 70 percent of the time since they no longer need to depend upon their husbands but can instead take half of what he owns and have them pay child support for many years. They are often too tired to put much time or energy into their marriages due to their careers. Marriage and raising children is FAR more important than having a career. There is nothing more important than raising the next generation, and children need a mother and father under the same roof and involved in their lives.

Women leaving their homes has hurt the old people. Old people no longer have their daughters around to help and give them comfort because their daughters are pursuing their careers. Young mothers hurt because they no longer have their mothers help because they have careers and they don’t have any older women involved in their lives due to careers. Neighbors don’t have people they can call on when they need help when all of the women are working away from their homes.

Women are more depressed and suicidal than ever before. They can’t expect anything different when they leave the clear path that God has chosen for them to pursue their own paths. God is our Creator and He is good. His ways for us are good. Women have been affected negatively since leaving their homes. Children have been abandoned and have been hurt the most. When the least among us is hurt the most, then we must carefully examine the path that we are on and switch course.

God-fearing women, I encourage you to go back to the paths that the Lord has laid out for you. If you think you can’t afford it, step out in faith in Almighty God. He tells us that His commands are not burdensome and that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. He wants you home full time. This is where He has given you to work and minister. Your work at home is not worthless! God will use you in powerful ways as you obey Him. He will bless you abundantly and the older you get, the more you will realize this.
