Abiding
Your Cell Phone vs The Bible
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
Are you more proficient with your phone than the Bible? Can you navigate your device better than God’s Word? If so, what does that reveal? It reveals that you are more interested in the things of this world, of the fleeting more than the eternal. You have more interest in minding earthly things than the things of God. This would mean that Jesus Christ is not truly your “first love” and that you are not ready to meet Him (Revelation 2:4-5).
“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent (turn back to the LORD), and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Revelation 2:4-5
Repenting, re-turning to the LORD, turning afresh to Him, and doing “the first works” would include getting into God’s Word, daily, diligently, militantly non-negotiably.
“Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12
Think about this: We all serve the one we actually worship. Whoever we render our attention to, our allegiance, our time, our energies, our heart affections, that is who we are truly serving.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6
Are you truly seeking the LORD?
“Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.” 1 Chronicles 16:11
Anyone not rendering, giving, seeking after the LORD Jesus, is serving the god of self.
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Romans 6:16
The issue is not the cell phone. No, the issue is the unrepentant heart that is not right with God. And, until there is true repentance, the sin of idolatry, etc., will run rampant in the rebel. The root determines the fruit.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8
God’s Word gloriously gets into us – as we get into it, daily. Make the beautiful, quality decision today, right now, that from tomorrow morning forward, you will awake to seek the LORD your God, to get into His holy Word, to give Him thanks for all He’s done and doing, and have quality moments in prayer communion.
Show me a man who is not feeding on, reading, studying, learning, teaching, and meditating upon God’s Word daily, militantly, and I will show you a backslider.
Jesus says that “no man can serve two masters” and “he that is not with me is against me” (Matthew 6:24; 12:30).
One of the ways we know who the false ministers are, is that they want people dependent on THEM, not God. So, they don’t constantly exhort the people to get into God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures, for themselves. Run.
“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” James 4:4
Anyone still attending a lukewarm modern church is bound to continue in their lukewarmness, die and go to hell if they don’t repent and truly follow Jesus – on HIS stated terms – the “daily” cross (Luke 9:23-24).
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” 1 John 2:15-17
“And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. 18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” Mark 4:17-19
God can work with us and will, if we just get honest, as all of Christ’s true disciples are doing (Matthew 18:3-4). Amen. “Honest” (Luke 8:15) ….. How can God’s Word get into me, unless I am getting into it? It can’t and it won’t and anyone not feeding on it daily is backslidden.
Have you memorized Job 23:12 and 2 Timothy 2:15? Go for it beloved of God. KJB.
Jesus told us that serving Him is “daily” and so any other way is a “false way” (Luke 9:23-24; Psalms 119:104, 128).
How can God’s Word get into you – and do it’s edifying, sanctifying, circumcising work – unless you are getting into it?
The LORD, who loves and misses you, desires to restore you, to refresh you. This happens when there is fresh repentance, and not before (Acts 3:19). Are you willing to go before the LORD, to His throne of grace, and receive His mercy for your sins, for your sin of self-idolatry, and spiritual adultery? And to let Him wash you clean and give you a fresh start?
PRAYER: Dear LORD Jesus, I love You. Please quicken my spirit in Your holy fear, make me alive in Thee afresh dear Savior. Please bless this life to be dead and buried that You might raise it up for Your eternal glory – both now and forever. In Jesus’ holy Name, amen.
