Being Made Free from Living in Sin [podcast]

When Adam sinned, “death passed upon all men” thereafter (Romans 5:12, 18-19). The bonds of iniquity can only be broken by God Himself and He does such as we receive and adhere to His cross message.

“But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:22-23

The only way to be free from living in sin is the crucified life (Romans 6:7). The crucified life is the very definition of submitting to God.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

Prayerfully read Romans 6 each morning this week and share it with others.

“For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Romans 6:7

Jesus commands you to be crucified with Him (Galatians 2:20). What did Jesus teach us that one must do to “come after, to follow Him?

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” Luke 9:23-24

The cross is God’s instrument to separate His people from that which defiles them in His holy eyes.

What’s insinuated in the passage below is that the cross is essential to being with Christ in “heaven.” The blood of His cross saves us and we walk with Him via the cross life He prescribed (Luke 9:24-25, etc.).

“(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19  Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly (carnal appetites), and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20  For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” Philippians 3:18-21

How can any preacher possibly claim to be anything but a depraved wolf in sheep’s clothing if he is not preaching the holiness of God? How? Holy/holiness appears 654 times in the Bible. The sheer repetitive fact of this attribute of the character of God is clear evidence all by itself that any preacher not preaching on it often, does not know this God who is “Holy, holy, holy” (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8).

“Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?” Habakkuk 1:13

Read Romans 5-8 afresh.

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” Galatians 5:16-24

The unfailing law of sowing and reaping …

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Galatians 6:7-8

Jesus defines His enemies…

“But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.” Luke 19:27

2 Timothy 3  Godlessness in the Last Days

1  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
