Return and Discern [podcast]

THE LORD IS DOING A WORK TODAY IN THE HEARTS OF HIS PEOPLE – BLESSING US TO BE POOR IN SPIRIT, HUNGERING FOR MORE OF HIM, AND PURE IN HEART (Matthew 5:3, 6, 8 ). It’s all in spite of our own failings and sin and because of His great mercies which are renewed every morning – GREAT is His faithfulness (Lamentation 3:22-23). Discernment is only granted by God when we truly repent which means we lay down our lives in this fleeting world and follow Jesus for real (2 Corinthians 3:16-18).

WHEN we earnestly seek the face of the LORD, turning our heart to Him, He removes the veil that blinds us so that we can see. A “vail” covers the eyes, hinders, prohibits the seeing.

“Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:16-18

GOD only opens the eyes of those who truly get humble, honest, repent, and wholly turn their heart to him.

“Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God…” 1 Chronicles 22:19

Truly submitting ourselves to the LORD is essential. Blindness will remain if we don’t and if we do, the light of Christ shall shine in us!

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:7-10

Only those who obey God will see, will understand His doctrine. One must turn his heart to the LORD for the blindness, the darkness to be removed.

“Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.” John 7:16-18

Many have a lack of discernment because their heart is not truly turned to the Lord. You seek your own glory and not His. You live to develop and protect your own reputation, not Christ’s! Therefore you are taken by false teachers, false prophecies, false ministries and heretical movements, and heresies.

“Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?” Malachi 3:7

As He was calling His people to repentance, to return to Him, the LORD promised that when they did, they’d be able to discern.

“Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.” Malachi 3:18

Those who abide in Christ can discern by the fruit, the difference between the authentic and the counterfeit in the professing body of Christ (Matthew 7:16, 20; Titus 1:16, etc.). Not only will the righteous discern who is real, authentic, and who is not, they shall see the excellent blessing of God upon those who are truly His!

“O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. 2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.” Hosea 14:1-2

The words “return unto me” appears 5 times in God’s Word and in 4 of those cases it’s the LORD calling His people to come back to Him….

“I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: RETURN UNTO ME; for I have redeemed thee.” Isaiah 44:22

“If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, RETURN UNTO ME: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.” Jeremiah 4:1

“And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall RETURN UNTO ME with their whole heart.” Jeremiah 24:7

“Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. RETURN UNTO ME, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?” Malachi 3:7

Those living in sin are in darkness and blinded.

“But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.” 1 John 2:11

Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear are in right standing with God. Those who don’t have this spiritual sight, this clarity of vision and discernment, are looking in the wrong direction – somewhere else other than the LORD. They are not “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:1-4
