Heart Medicine for You

The Life-Giving Medicinal Properties of God’s Word

Is Your Heart Healthy Today?

PRAYER: Holy Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, please melt and grant this heart You gave to be truly a heart of flesh, full of Your love. Remove the stony places that came by way of my sin. In the name of Jesus Father, please do this work in me as only You can do!

“DESIRE the sincere (pure) milk of the word.” 1 Peter 2:2

“Desire” is a choice. Appetites are chosen.

The next time your heart fails you – with fear, hurt, loss, loneliness, or a wound – apply the medicine of the LORD.  It’s only the well-fed heart and soul that are healthy.

“And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live (have spiritual life) by bread alone, but by every word of God.” Luke 4:4

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God” and “every word of God” has significance (2 Timothy 3:16; Luke 4:4; Proverbs 30:5). They are God-breathed and have His divine life in them.

“It is the spirit that quickeneth (makes alive; gives life); the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63

In the above words of Jesus Christ, the English word “spirit” was translated from the Greek word pneuma which means a current of air, that is, breath or blast, or a breeze. Do you desire His breath of life to blow into, through, and upon your life?

God’s words have inherent life and healing properties. The words of the divine are “spirit and they are life” says the LORD Jesus (John 6:63). Yet, just how are those words of life applied to our lives? How is it that this breath, blast, and current of life can blow into us?

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

Just who did Jesus tell us that God will bless and fill? – “they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness.”

Remember the last time you were super thirsty and grabbed a cold bottle of water? Think about the invigorating stimulation that occurred as that cold, clean, refreshing water flowed into your mouth, down your throat, and into your stomach. Whew! Doesn’t that make you thirsty for some cool and refreshing water right now? Makes me want to grab some water right now!

Now, how about when your heart is thirsty, hungry, aching, lonely, confused, unfulfilled, or feeling very empty? What’s the solution? Do we need to just remain in that dismal state? Or, is there something we can do?

What do you do when you begin getting a sore throat and cold? Do you just sit there and let that sickness overtake your body or do you get up and get that vitamin C flowing into your system with capsules and orange juice?

When you were thirsty for water after exercising or on a hot day, what did you do? Do you do something to quench that thirst? Did you reach for that cold water?

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep (guard, preserve) thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:20-23

As your heart goes, so goes your life – “out of it are the issues of life.” The above passage of Holy Scripture promises us that “with all diligence,” if we will “attend” to the words of the LORD, the life of Christ will fill our souls, minds, and hearts and keep us guarded from infections.

Let’s break it down a bit together:

  • “attend to my words”
  • “incline thine ear unto my sayings (my words)”
  • “Let them not depart form thine eyes”
  • “keep them in the midst of thine heart”
  • “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Results/Benefits of Getting God’s Words in our Hearts

“For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh”

If we will attend to His words which means to give them due attention, including our hearts toward His sayings, letting them not depart from our eyes, and keeping them in the midst of our hearts, they will bring Christ’s spiritual life and health to our whole being – spirit, soul, and body.

Joy is the result of ingesting the words of the LORD.

“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” Jeremiah 15:16

Are you feeling lonely today? Do you feel empty and without purpose? Are you hurting inside for any reason? Every disciple in every century has suffered these things. In fact, Jeremiah suffered great persecution as will be the case for all true disciples of Jesus in our day. Yet, when Jeremiah suffered at the hands of God’s enemies who afflicted him, he chose to find God’s words, and to “eat them.” Jeremiah simply applied the medicine provided. The blessed and healing precepts of our LORD then became to him “the joy and rejoicing” of his heart!

“O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke. 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” Jeremiah 15:15-16

Your Heart is Wicked and in Utter, Perpetual Need of God’s Grace

Here’s what we need to know about ourselves…. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9) Did you just learn something about yourself? YES. And never forget it.

“He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool:” Proverbs 28:26

Don’t Just Sit there, Get the Word in Your Heart!

The LORD’s words have never been more available than they are today. Don’t settle for a cheap substitute – get a King James Bible. Refuse to mope, pine away as if you have no medicine to apply, and just sulk. No, instead, apply the LORD’s solution, His medicine. Memorize Jeremiah 15:16. Get into God’s Word and God’s Word will get into you and bring His life into your existence and bless you untold!  If we don’t daily and often ingest His words, we have no one to blame but ourselves for not ingesting them – devouring them – and receiving of their inherent and divine medicinal properties. When we do, healing, joy, rejoicing, restoration, and wholeness will result.

Not just peace but “Great peace” is promised to all who love God’s Word and those who love Him and His words will devour them.

“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” Psalms 119:165

Do you love the Word of God?

The spiritual health and protection of Christ’s true church is dependent upon their becoming and keeping grounded in His Word.

Message Stated:

“The Word of God is not about doctrine or theology, it is all about Jesus Christ and His Love, Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness. The Scriptures teach and guide us to a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through the understanding given to us by the Holy Spirit….May the love of Christ be upon you all, Praise God for all glory is given to our Father in Heaven.”

Reply:

Those things ARE doctrine brother. “Doctrine” appears 51 times in God’s Word. Yet, you left out the divine attributes revealed in His Word, His holiness and His command for us to be holy, the life and mission of Christ, repentance, sin, the soon coming of Jesus, the daily cross He commanded us to take up, etc.  You only mentioned “Love, Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness.” While those things are part of God’s Word, they paint an imbalanced picture of God’s nature and will if the other things He stated are left out. Now, do we begin to see why the Bible and studying the full-counsel of God’s Word is so important – so we are not misled by half truths and people who leave out so many truths from the whole message of God’s Word? Memorize 2 Timothy 3:16 in KJV and notice the very first stated reason God gave us His Word – “doctrine.”  Sound doctrine is not legalism – it’s essential for the growth and protection of God’s people (Acts 20:20-32).
