“Beelzebub” appears 7 times in God’s Word – each time in the Gospels.

“Beelzebub, meaning ‘Lord of the Flies’ in Hebrew, is described as a demon in Christian and Jewish demonology, and is often seen as another name for Satan.”

Satan has many names given to him in the Bible. “Beelzebub” is but one of them. This description as “lord of the flies” could in part refer to the disturbing, irritating nature of Satan and his evil work, harassing the lives of the saints in the earth. Also, not only Satan but also a third of the angels were cast from Heaven for their rebellion and so Satan is the lord of all those “flies,” also the third of the angels who were expelled from glory, from the presence of God (Revelation 12:4).

Jesus calls Satan “the thief” in John 10:10 and speaks of how he has come “to steal, to kill, and to destroy.” In the following passage, the arch enemy of God is called by several names. The names of Satan are descriptive of his evil nature and activities.

“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12  Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” Revelation 12:7-12

Putting Your Foot down on the Head of “that old Serpent”! Overcoming the irritations of the “Lord of the Flies” also known as Satan and the Devil

To keep Satan out of our lives, we must overcome all sin, we must keep all sin out of our lives – otherwise the enemy of our souls has legal right to us.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

  • “Submit yourselves therefore to God”
  • “Resist the devil”
  • “he will flee from you.”

Read that again and notice there are: 2 commands, conditions and one result – victory.

“1  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God

4  When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5  Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6  For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

7  In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8  But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” Colossians 3:1-10

Following Jesus by…

How do we overcome all sin, satan, death, and hell? – Just like Jesus did (principally).

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Hebrews 2:14-15

Nothing in the whole universe can prevent the raising up, the resurrection of Christ in your personal life if you will but die – surrender, disown your own life and let God have it!

Your life is in divinely perfect hands when you give it to God. Let go and let God.

“Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42

“And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” Luke 23:46

If you want to live you must be willing to die. To deny yourself is to disown yourself, to surrender, to submit your whole being into the hands of God.

“Thou fool, that which thou sowest (plant) is not quickened (made alive, raised up), except it die:” 1 Corinthians 15:36

God here says that we are fools to think He is going to raise up any person who is not first dead and buried.

“Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:12-15

Satan and all of hell celebrated that Jesus was now dead and buried and yet they didn’t know that 3 days later Christ would be raised from the dead.

“Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”  1 Corinthians 2:6-8

“Times of refreshing….

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” Acts 3:19

“Continually” – every single day and not just on Sundays (Luke 9:23-24).

“Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.” 1 Chronicles 16:11

We don’t die for our sins but we do die to our sins. In that way we follow Christ’s command and His pattern or path of complete victory of sin, Satan, death, and hell.

Read Romans 6 each morning this week.

PRAYER: I love You my LORD Jesus! Father, here and now this moment, I ask You to forgive all my sins. Please wash me clean in the precious blood of Jesus. Bless my life to be dead and buried with Christ. I know You are now raising my life up to bring glory to Yourself from this moment forward. I love You my LORD Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
