“Exhort servants (employees, slaves) to be obedient unto their own masters (bosses), and to please them well in all things; not answering again; 10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.” Titus 2:9-10
The context of the above passage is instructions to all Christian “servants” (employees) and how they can be Christ’s witnesses among those they work with, including their “master” (boss, owner, etc.).
“2:10 One of the most obvious differences was that Christians did not succumb to the besetting sin of other slaves, namely, pilfering. The Christian ethic bound them to strict honesty. Is it any wonder that Christian slaves commanded higher prices at public auctions? In general they were taught to show complete and true fidelity. They were to be totally trustworthy and thus adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every aspect of their lives and service. What was true of Christian bondservants then should be true of all Christian employees today.” William MacDonald, Believer’s Bible Commentary
“Purloining”
nosphizomai
nos-fid’-som-ahee
Middle voice from νοσφί nosphi (apart or clandestinely); to sequestrate for oneself, that is, embezzle: – keep back, purloin.
“Fidelity”
pis’-tis
From G3982; persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself: – assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.
“Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:” 2 Peter 2:14
“I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?” Job 31:1
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7
“Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: 4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses…” 2 Corinthians 6:3-4
You are a Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ, and what you do – good or bad – is going to be associated with Christ. In other words, the way people perceive you due to your actions and attitudes, they are going to associate with Christ Himself.
Is your life currently a reflection of the perfect beauty and divine splendor our our LORD and Savior?
“That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” 1 Thessalonians 4:12
Beloved of God, remember that our LORD Jesus informs us that we are “the salt of the earth”, sent forth by our Master Jesus to bring His healing, the preserving power of His salvation, and His bless-ed flavoring to others.
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
In Titus 2:10 we are instructed to “adorn the doctrine of God.”
“Adorn” means to put in proper order by decorating, garnishing, trimming. Embellishing.
kosmeō
kos-meh’-o
From G2889; to put in proper order, that is, decorate (literally or figuratively); specifically to snuff (a wick): – adorn, garnish, trim.
Think of walking into a home for the first time and seeing the furniture and yet no accessories. Pretty plain, right? Yes. The before may be somewhat functional, usable, and yet the after is going to be much more inviting, ingratiating, and attract more takers!
Perhaps because someone cared enough to put an attractive cover on their book, most would be more inclined to obtain and read the contents of that book, right? How about a living room? What does it say of those who created a warm, inviting living room? It may just communicate to us that they cared to be hospitable to those who would visit. How about food. Has anyone ever cooked for you? What did it communicate to you that it was well seasoned? Such most likely warmed your heart, instilling in you that the person who cooked that food not only wanted you to be nourished but also delighted by the taste of that nutritious food, right?
“Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:” Ezekiel 7:27
Jesus spoke of “many mansions” in His Father’s house (John 14:1-6). In Revelation 21 He gives a detailed, lavish description of the New Jerusalem, etc.
An inviting atmosphere is one that is defined, uncluttered, warm, hospitable, and inviting. Makes one want to dwell in that atmosphere.
Are our lives inviting to others? Do our lives make others want Jesus? And when they come close, when they commune with us, do we have enough flavor and substance to cause them to desire to pay a return visit? Remember how so many were drawn to our LORD? The woman at the well, the woman with the issue of blood, Zachaeus, the prodigal son, etc. We should never leave anyone without having made a powerful, bless-ed deposit into their lives.
Are there some renovations God is doing in your life?
“See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.” Jeremiah 1:10
From brother Chris Sitter:
“Prayer… Father in Heaven, thank You so much – for your beautiful and precious and terrifying Word!!! You have been so kind to show us the little we currently understand. Please help us always to be hungry to learn more, to apply what you’ve shown us – to our own lives, to not have any iniquity that has dominion over us, to keep our hearts with all diligence, and to always be faithful – when You give us another chance to share. Please guide us, as we study your Word, and as we consider what to share – and where and how to share it, and please bring MANY SOULS to Yourself – through the Word of God presented, and please bless every other brother – who is preaching your balanced Word – to the lost and to your sheep!!! in Jesus name!”
Let’s Use Some Seasoning!
“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt (seasoning), that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Colossians 4:5-6
Do you like plain food, food with no salt or pepper, or would you prefer Tony Chacheres cajun seasoning on it? The latter is making me hungry right now! Who would think to eat bland food? Do we think God doesn’t have flavor? He invented it. Nothing exists without Him creating it.
Is your life bland or is it seasoned with God’s love exuding in and out from you?
In light of this, what might your life look like right now and what are the possibilities of what it could look like? Do you have the flavoring of Heaven exuding from your attitude, your disposition? Memorizing applicable Scriptures will immediately begin to change your life for God’s glory!
Pour Water on the Fires of Strife!
One of the ways God’s glory shines through His people is when there is a crisis and how they react. Think about when there is strife in the workplace and notice how our LORD instructs us in this.
Think of when you are attacked, slandered, harshly, unexpectedly confronted. Memorize:
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” Proverbs 15:1
And memorize:
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29
What’s the principle conveyed by adorning the doctrine of God which is the revelation of Jesus Christ which/whom you have been espoused to?
When you witness, please be kept. Brush your teeth and comb your hair. Wear decent (not lavish) clothes.
When you put Scriptures in a little book to pass out, or leaflet/tract, do your best to make it attractive.
In other words, make the things of Christ attractive to others. Do not unnecessarily cast a stumblingblock before others by your own neglect or obnoxious behavior.
No one puts a cheap frame around a Picasso or Michael Angelo painting, right?
Lest someone would attempt to take this too far: Please understand that you and I can add nothing to God’s Word and yet God’s Word instructs us to “adorn the doctrine of God” – to make it attractive to others and not repel them by our own lack of aggrandizing it or the neglect of your own hygiene, etc.
Would we all agree that if God leads a believer to encase His Word in a book, that believer should be careful to adorn that book with a nice attractive cover? That way it is inviting for others to pick it up and perhaps buy and read those words of God within, right? Oh, and most important, the Word of God is all that truly matters in any man’s book. For believers, in all ministering, we follow the Nehemiah 8:8 model where we simply exactly state, use God’s actual Word and then give the sense of it, talk about it, attempt to apprehend what HE is saying (Ezekiel 3:4; 2 Timothy 4:2; 1 Peter 4:11).
Think back to what God used to attract you to Him. Was it not the clear-eyed love, joy, and peace of His people who witnessed to you? Yes. They adorned, they made attractive the holy doctrine which reveals our great God! That Word which they had already received was doing things in their lives that the LORD alone can do – love, joy, peace, etc. (Galatians 5:22-23). Their lives were adorned, they were living, tangible proof of how good Jesus is!
You cannot do this life over. You have only this one opportunity. Consider all that you are doing. It there eternal value? Is it truly to the glory of the LORD Jesus?
Your Prayer:
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalms 90:12
The depth of the death and burial in your life is going to determine the height of the resurrection in your life (2 Corinthians 4:10-12). Nothing is going to work right without the cross at the center of your life – Christ’s redeeming cross, and the one He commanded you to take up daily (Matthew 20:38-39; Luke 9:23-24).
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of my LORD Jesus Christ. Please forgive my self-idolatry which is at the root of all my sin. Jesus, I stop my life, right now and ask You to let Your redeeming cross and all that is divinely invested in it, to take it’s full effect in my life. Please anoint me with the oil of Your Holy Spirit to the death and burial of self so that You alone might reign in my life. I love You Father. I love You my dear LORD Jesus and thank You afresh for dying on that cross for my sins, being buried, and raised against the third day for my justification. Thank You. Not my will but thine be done – now and forevermore! In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Run that Ye May Obtain [podcast]
Don’t Walk. “Run.”
Saints we are finishing honest, holy, humble, repentant – crucified with Christ and confessing and never covering any sin (Proverbs 28:13).
1 Corinthians 9:16-27
16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

“I have Espoused you to one Husband” [podcast]
“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:28
After detailing the things that would be occuring in the earth before His return, Jesus then instructs us what to do: “look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
We’ve come way to far to turn back now.
Now that the LORD has found and saved you, you are now engaged to be married eternally to Christ, the Great Bridegroom.
“For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 11:2
The word “chaste” is defined this way:
ἁγνός
hagnos
hag-nos’
From the same as G40; properly clean, that is, (figuratively) innocent, modest, perfect: – chaste, clean, pure.
One source notes:
“The phrase “I have espoused you to one husband” is from the Bible, specifically 2 Corinthians 11:2. It is spoken by the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth, where he uses a metaphor of a father ‘betrothing’ a daughter to a groom. In this context, he is the spiritual father who has led them to believe in Christ, and he has now given them to Christ, the one husband, as a pure virgin bride.
- Spiritual father: Paul compares himself to a father who has arranged a marriage for his daughter.
- The Church as the bride: The church is the ‘daughter’ being given in marriage.
- Christ as the husband: Christ is the one husband to whom the church is being betrothed.
- Purity and faithfulness: Paul’s ‘godly jealousy’ is his fear that the church will be led away from its pure and simple devotion to Christ, much like Eve was deceived. He wants to present them to Christ as a ‘chaste virgin.'”
What bride is Jesus returning for?
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:25-27
How we know His bride:
The true bride of Christ that He is returning for is in the Word, being sanctified and cleansed by it “with the washing of water by the word.” Jesus is returning for His remnant body, bride who are known in that they are walking, living in the Word. They are obedient to read and obey Him, it. Read Psalm 1.
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalms 1:2-3
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62
“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. … 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Matthew 10:22; 24:13
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10
PRAYER: Father in Jesus’ name, please make me holy. Anoint my life to the death and burial of self that You might raise me up daily in Your victory and fruitfulness. Unite my heart to fear Thy name dear LORD. Into Your hands I here and now submit my spirit and life. In Jesus’ name.

“Your Redemption Draweth Nigh” [podcast]
“Great podcast!” Robin Figtree
“Amen! This verse is hope for the remnant believers! As we are not to be like the world and the lukewarm Christians whose hearts are failing them for fear. Luke 21:26. But we are to put our hope and faith in our blessed Saviour who will come like a thief in the night. We are to live with an eternal perspective. And not to live in despair, hopelessness, and fear.” Karen Cochran
Hebrews 10:35-39
“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”
Jesus told us to “look up, and lift up your heads” when we see the signs of the end which would indicate His soon return. Rather than being overly preoccupied with the signs and Satan’s agents that Christ told us would be most evident just before His return, we should be all the more seeking the face of the Lord. Jesus is coming which should hasten us to do the ministry commission He left us to do—edify, nourish, teach and send forth His people into ministry to make Him known to the lost (Matthew 28:18-20; John 21:15-17; Ephesians 4:11-15, etc.).
“But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:13
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25
Are you nourishing your heart daily in God’s Word? Who will you build up in Christ today?
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:57-58
Prayer: LORD, please root me soundly in You this day. Produce the fruit and good works in this vessel that glorify You. Help me to nourish, edify, and equip others of Your beloved people. In Jesus’ name, amen.
