Dear Calvinists
by Jason Frost
Dear Calvinists,
If God’s grace is irresistible as taught by T.U.L.I.P. then please explain John 12:32, Titus 2:11, Acts 7:51, John 5:40, Matthew 22:1-14, and Matthew 23:37.
John 12:32
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Titus 2:11-12
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
John 5:40
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
Matthew 23:37
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Acts 7:51
51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
Wedding Banquet. All are invited but not all come. What is the condition for attending the Wedding Banquet?
Matthew 22:1-14
22 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
God clearly states He desires all to repent and believe so why would God create many people incapable of repenting and believing? In Mark 6:6 Jesus marvels at some people’s lack of belief, but why would Jesus marvel if Jesus already knew some people were created incapable of believing?
If Calvinism were true (which it is not) then every person that’s in hell is in hell because of something God didn’t do. Calvinism maligns God’s good name and makes God’s salvific offer to all disingenuous.
What good news (gospel) is there in Calvinism’s wait and maybe be regenerated plan? Calvinists teach regeneration precedes faith which is taught no where in scripture. How does someone have new life apart from being ‘in Christ’ by faith?
