The Mote and the Beam
The sins that offend us the most should be our own.
God will forgive “ALL sins” except 1:
“Verily I say unto you, ALL sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:” Mark 3:28-29
If we vainly imagine that someone else’s sin is more vile than our own in the eyes of a holy God, we still don’t have a Gospel clue! (Genesis 32:10; Jeremiah 17:9; James 2:10, 13; Titus 3:3-7, etc.)
The word of God testifies to us that people yelling the loudest in the unjust condemnation of others are usually hiding the most… as they project their own darkness on others. Romans 2:1-3
THOSE who wrongly condemn others in their attitude of heart have no clue yet just how evil their own heart is in the eyes of a HOLY God! Listen to this: “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?” Romans 2:1-3
DID Cain murder his brother Abel because of Abel’s sins or his own?
“Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.” 1 John 3:12
Those who slander others do so because of the wickedness that exists in their own hearts.
Many times the righteous are blamed by the wicked for what evil they (the wicked) have done. Example: “… Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?” (1 Kings 18:16-17) The wicked husband of Jezebel accused God’s prophet Elijah for being the evil one when he was in reality the wicked rebel, the enemy of the LORD.
From Pastor Mark Herridge Sr.:
“How would you like it if someone recorded your mistakes of years ago and posted it on YouTube? I certainly would not, especially if I was a different person now. It is wrong to hold a person captive to their mistakes committed years ago when they have repented of them. Let us always keep this in mind when accessing social media. I am constantly hearing of someone saying something terrible and there being a “video” of their transgression, only to find out it was something done years ago, and after speaking to the person I find that they are a much different person now. It is a very strange world we live in today. We should treat people with the same grace that we ourselves would like to be treated.”
Repenting of buying into false reports and slander …..
REMEMBER, THOSE WHO sit in the seat of the scornful and wrongly judge, INSTEAD OF RESTORING, ARE GOING TO REAP JUDGMENT AS HARSH AS THEY DEALT IT OUT (JAMES 2:13; MATTHEW 7:1-5). IT IS A BLESSING AND DELIVERANCE EVERY TIME SOMEONE LIKE THIS IS REMOVED FROM THE LIFE OF A TRUE BELIEVER.
YES CORRECTION AND REBUKE ARE BIBLICAL AND YET, THE DIVINE GOAL IN SUCH IS RESTORATION.
EVER BEEN ACCUSED OF SOMETHING YOU AREN’T EVEN DOING BY SOMEONE WHO IS ACTUALLY DOING THAT SAME THING? WELL, HYPOCRISY IS A PART OF THE SINFUL NATURE ISN’T IT?
Take a look again….“for thou that judgest doest the same things” …
“Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?” Romans 2:1-3
I’ve seen people who are watching illicit material judge others who did the act. Unreal hypocrisy according to Jesus. Jesus says that if you even look upon a woman to lust you’ve already committed adultery in the eyes of a holy God (Matthew 5:28).
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Matthew 5:28
ARE ALL THINGS AS THEY MIGHT SEEM ON THE SURFACE? NO. SOMETIMES THINGS ARE AS SOME INDIVIDUAL WANTS THEM TO LOOK – SOMEONE WITH AN AGENDA. IF THINGS ARE MANY TIMES NOT AS THEY INITIALLY SEEM, WHY DO WE DRAW CONCLUSION WHEN WE HAVE INCOMPLETE INFORMATION ON A MATTER? WHEN WILL WE LEARN THIS LESSON?
“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” Proverbs 18:13
“He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.” Proverbs 18:17
Read that again. It’s wise to wait till all parties have spoken – had their day in court if you will. In other words, unless you have personal knowledge of a whole situation, it’s wise to refrain from drawing conclusion. How many sides are their to each story? At least 2, right?
Theresa Crowley Sanchez writes: “Sometimes we tend to forget where God has brought us from, and when we see others do what we have done we point fingers with an holier-than-thou attitude. We forget God’s mercy and grace and that we don’t deserve it ourselves. We should be reminded every day that it is by God’s grace we are saved and not of our own works.”
Is it not correct that a person who has an agenda they are pushing and promulgating, will leave out things that would paint a picture THEY don’t wish to be known?
Saints, if someone is wrongly judging you, you can know that God is on the case without fail and will bring their judgment back upon their own heads (Psalms 9:15-17; Romans 12:19, etc.). For now, He is testing you – as to who you will trust.
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Romans 12:19
Jesus promises that if we wrongly condemn another, He is going to allow judgment to come upon us to the same measure we dealt to another.
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:1-5
WHERE is the ministering? Where?
Where is the desire to help and restore others?
Do we begin to understand why Jesus came? Please memorize Luke 9:56 and John 3:17.
Yes correction and rebuke are biblical and yet, the divine goal in such is restoration (Galatians 6:1-2, etc.).
“And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” 2 Timothy 2:24-26 (memory truth)
WHEN you see a person who preaches the truth and yet lacks mercy, compassion, and restorative love of Jesus, you it known that it’s only a matter of time before they turn and rend you!
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend (stab, tear) you.” Matthew 7:6
THE MERCY-LESS shall be dealt with MERCY-LESSLY by God (Matthew 7:1-5; James 2:13).
SO, you were willing to admit you were sinful and separated from God and so initially repented and Jesus saved you. YET, do you begin to realize that you are in NO LESS in need of His saving grace today? What did Jesus say in Matthew 5:3?
“But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Matthew 9:13
Some will quickly respond to hard biblical truth (repentance, truth, holiness, hell, etc.) and that’s good, and yet, some of the same people do not like the equally BIBLICAL truths of mercy, grace, compassion, and lovingkindness. Beware. Are you growing by learning ALL the doctrines of Holy Scripture? If not, inevitably, you will perpetrate and imbalance.
We’d better fall afresh on the mercy of God in Christ – shut our mouths, leave everyone else alone, and get our own lives right with God.
YOU SEE, it’s only when our own hearts are hardened BY OUR OWN SIN, that we deal harshly with others, right? Read this:
“Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” Hebrews 3:12-15
IF A PERSON IS NOT MINISTERING GOD’S GRACE, TRUTH, AND LOVE TO OTHERS IN THEIR FALLEN STATE, BUT INSTEAD QUICK TO CONDEMN, THAT PERSON IS NOT BEING SENT OF THE LORD TO CORRECT ANYONE ELSE – BECAUSE THEY HAVE REFUSED TO CORRECT THEMSELVES. IN THEIR SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS THEY WILL SWEAR GOD IS SENDING THEM BUT IN DOING SUCH THEY LIE AGAINST THE LORD. GOD IS NOT GOING TO CONTRADICT HIS OWN WORD. READ MATTHEW 7:1-5 AND ALSO GALATIANS 6:1-2.
Titus 3:5-6 is a great way to begin our day by declaring this truth.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;” Titus 3:5-6
Doing this will defuse the iniquity of self-righteousness.
We should consider the wisdom of shutting our mouths.
Mind your own business – God has a whole lot to do in you!
ONE of the reasons Jesus says “judge not” is because YOU do not know the real scoop in many cases.
Saints, just because your sin is or was a different flavor doesn’t mean it was less of an offense in the eyes of a God who is “Holy, holy, holy.” (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8) Please meditate on the holiness of God.
God will not forgive the sins of any person who refuses to forgive all others – from their heart (Matthew 18:21-35; Mark 11:25-26, etc.). Unforgiveness is non-negotiably, irrefutably, soul damning sin.
Both Paul and James, by the Holy Ghost hit this point:
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.” James 2:10-13
“Harboring unforgiveness against someone else is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.” unknown
So you are living with or fornicating with someone (fornication – a soul damning sin) and yet find reason to judge another – on ANYTHING? Jesus calls you a bonafide hypocrite in need of full repentance or damnation will be your destination (Matthew 7:1-5; Revelation 21:8, etc.).
So are an unrepentant liar and yet you judge another in your heart (or otherwise) for stealing or lusting? Utter hypocrisy.
“Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?” Romans 2:21-22
Do you come to the aid of those who have fallen, or, do you judge them? What did the priest and Levite do and what did the Good Samaritan do? Which will you be? See Luke 10:25-37.
May our LORD cleanse us of all hypocrisy, purifying our hearts by faith, in Jesus’ name (Psalms 51).
Biblical advice/counsel: Get your own life right! Leave EVERYONE else alone! God is not sending you to correct anyone except YOU! If the LORD did such He’d be violating/contradicting His own Word – and we know He will never do such a thing.
