ANYONE who doesn’t know and understand at least the fundamental of the first 3 chapters of Genesis, cannot possibly claim they have a foundational knowledge of the Bible.

What caused the fall of mankind into sin? Chapter 3. Who lied to the man and woman who were in perfect union with God? What was the lie the perpetrator told the man and the woman which caused them to sin and fall from grace? Why did the LORD remove them from His presence? (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8; Romans 6:23)

Without a working knowledge of the book of Genesis (origins), people have no clue about history, creation, who our forefathers were, which lineage we emanate from, or how we came to this point in HIS-story. Genesis chapters 5-10 are the record of how the earth was overspread after everyone was killed in the flood except Noah and his wife and 3 sons and their wives – 8 people total. Shem, Ham, and Japheth were the sons of Noah and out of those 3 come the major races of the world.

How was the earth replenished and overspread with the peoples of the earth after the flood of Noah?

“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. … These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.” Genesis 9:19

I. The Beginnings of History (1-11)

1) The creation of the universe (1:1-2:3).
2) Description of the garden of Eden (2:4-17).
3) The creation of woman (2:18-25 ).
4) The Fall of man (ch. 3).
5) Cain and Abel (ch. 4).
6) The generations from Adam to Noah (ch. 5). This section is characterized by the extreme longevity of the persons noted.
7) A description of the wickedness which moved God to commission Noah to build and enter the ark, together with the details concerning the ark, the flood, and the post-deluvian events of Noah’s life (6-9).
8 ) The ancient families of mankind, as they descended from Noah (ch. 10).

II. The Story of Abraham (12-25)

1 ) God’s call of Abram and the covenant with him in which he was promised that his descendants should inherit the land of Canaan, that they should become a great nation and that through them all nations of the earth would be blessed (12-17). Abram’s name is changed to Abraham and Ishmael is born to Abraham and Hagar, Sarah’s handmaid.
2 ) The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, with an account of Lot’s deliverance (18-19).
3 ) Abraham deceives Abimelech concerning Sarah (ch. 20).
4 ) The early years of Isaac (21-25:18). This section contains the birth of Isaac (21:1-8); the departure of Hagar and Ishmael (21:9-21) ; Abraham’s faith, as demonstrated by his willingness to sacrifice Isaac (ch. 22); the death of Sarah and the purchase of the family burial ground from the Hittites (ch. 23); and the betrothal of Isaac and Rebekah (ch. 24). At the end of this section, Abraham’s death is recorded (25:1-11) and the generations of Ishmael are given (25:12-18).

III. The Story of Isaac (25:19-26; 35)

The main events in connection with Isaac’s life are the birth of his twin sons, Jacob and Esau ( 25 : 19-34) and his sojourn among the Philistines (ch. 26).

IV. The Story of Jacob and Esau (27:1-37:1)

1) Jacob leaves home, after receiving his father’s blessing by deceit ( 27:1-28:9 ). It was on this journey that he experienced the vision of the
ladder at Bethel (28:10-15).
2 ) Jacob’s family and his return from Haran to Canaan ( 29-33 ). This section gives an account of Jacob’s marriages, the birth of most of his children, the shrewd dealings between Laban and Jacob and the departure of Jacob from Haran. After leaving Haran and wrestling with the angel, Jacob came into contact with Esau, but without the conflict which had been feared.
3 ) The last years of Jacob’s life (34-36).

V. The Story of Joseph (37-50)

1 ) Joseph, because of the jealousy of his brothers, is sold into Egypt where, after a series of events, he becomes a ruler of Egypt, ranking
just under Pharaoh ( 37-41 ).
2 ) Joseph’s brothers come to Egypt to buy food during a time of great famine. After a time, Joseph reveals his identity to his brethren (42-
45).
3 ) At the insistence of Joseph, Jacob and his family settle in Egypt (46-47).
4 ) Jacob’s blessing of Joseph’s two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and his prophecy concerning the twelve tribes (48-49).
5 ) The death of Jacob and Joseph (ch. 50).

Going deeper begins with a foundational knowledge of the book of origins – the book of Genesis. In fact, a sound, solid biblical foundation begins with knowing and understanding the book of Genesis.

What is the Book of Genesis about summary?

The Book of Genesis, the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament, is an account of the creation of the world, the early history of humanity, Israel’s ancestors, and the origins of the Jewish people. Its Hebrew name is the same as its first word, Bereshit (“In the beginning”).

Genesis 1-3 gives an account of how God created Earth and everything on it, including man. He forms the first man, Adam, out of the soil, and then creates the first woman, Eve, from one of Adam’s ribs.

Genesis answers the universal questions we all have such as “How did everything come to be?,” “Where did I come from?,” “Who were the first people?,” and “What’s God’s purpose for my life”?

You can’t GET deep till you GO deep.

Are you crying out to the LORD to do His deeper work in your life? Knowing, learning the contents of the book of Genesis is essential to a sound biblical foundation.

“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.” Psalms 42:7

Genesis is broad in its scope, it’s mind filling, and full of divine doctrine, concepts, truth, revelation……

THE BOOK OF GENESIS: Creation (ch. 1), mankind’s beginning and the divine command to marry and multiply, the fall of mankind (ch. 1-2), the fall of mankind into sin, separating him from God, and the first Messianic prophecy (ch. 3), the first persecution and murder along with the first musical instrument (Ch. 4), the flood judgment of Noah – Noahic flood (ch.’s 5-10), the tower of Babel (ch. 11), the beginnings of the Hebrew people of God (Ch. 12), etc….. the life of Joseph and the people of God in Egypt (ch.’s 37-50).

The curtains of history, HIS-Story, are opened from the onset, like walking into a dark room and turning on the light. Our understanding is dark until the light switch of Genesis illuminates it. – “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:1-5

The 5 remaining days of creation ensue along with the resting of God on the seventh day.

The wickedness of fallen man (ch. 3) and consequent judgment of Noah’s flood and the salvation of just 8 righteous souls spans chapters 5-10. This cataclysmic event illustrates the holiness of God in contrast to sinful mankind. This destruction impacts all of history and is prophetic in prefiguring the redemption Christ would bring to those who choose to be His by receiving His salvation offer (Matthew 24:37-39).

Antediluvian Period – from the Fall to the Flood: The antediluvian period is the time period chronicled in the Bible between the fall of man and the Genesis flood narrative in biblical cosmology. The term was coined by Thomas Browne. The narrative takes up chapters 1–6 of the Book of Genesis. The term found its way into early geology and science until the late Victorian era. Colloquially, the term is used to refer to any ancient and murky period.

Noah had three sons which overspread the earth. Shem, Ham, Japheth. “And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.” (Genesis 9:18-19) There are 3 major races of mankind, all coming out of the first man, Adam and his wife Eve and the 3 sons of Noah. Shem is the father of the oriental peoples (Jews, Arabs, people of the east). Ham is the father of the Africans. Japheth is the father of the Europeans. Read Genesis chapter 5-11 for a foundation of how the world came to be as it is.

“A Faithful Man shall Abound with Blessings” [podcast]

Do you desire to abound in the blessings of God?

Jesus our LORD taught that as we are faithful with what the LORD has already given us, then, and only then, will He multiply it.

ASK YOURSELF: Are you faithful to abide, to obey Him by obeying His Word? If so, Jesus and the Father are dwelling richly with you and will multiply you according to your proper, wise, faithful stewardship of what is already in your possession – which is from Him. See John 14:21-23.

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” Proverbs 28:20

God is not going to add to or multiply His supply and blessings to anyone who is sitting around, doing the church attendance thing, and not doing His biblically stated will – of loving, tending to, giving to, serving, and blessing others (Matthew 22:37-39). Every true disciple is a doer of the WORD (James 1:22; 1 John 2:3-6, etc.). A true disciple is not known merely by being a church attender, which any old dead fish counterfeit can be. No, the true servant of Christ is known by his supreme love for, and faithful obedience to Christ his King, his “first love” (Revelation 2:4-5).

Every good gift and blessing is from God (James 1:17). We take from what He’s given us and we share it with others – whether that be supply, or spiritual blessings in Christ, or material blessings.

“But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. ⁷Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. ⁸And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹(as it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. ¹⁰Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) ¹¹being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

ARE GOD’S BLESSINGS CONDITIONAL? Yes they are. Here’s but one example of how God’s people forfeited His blessings due to living life on their own terms instead of complying with His.

“Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.” Jeremiah 5:25

Matthew 25:14-30

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

Please unite my heart to truly fear Thy holy Name and to be quickened by Your Word and Holy Spirit unto obedience. Please multiply Your grace to my life as You are working in me and Your body both to will and to do of Your good pleasure. In Jesus’ name, amen.
