Jesus made it clear that “the lust of other things” would cause His blessed Word to be unfruitful and therefore damn many.
“And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. 18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” Mark 4:17-19
Could it possibly be those who have a death grip on the mammon of this fleeting world who balk at the idea of a ministry asking for biblically-ordained and mandated participation? Are some signing their own death warrant by refusing to renounce the god of self and mammon? Yet they despise and persecute and yet those ministers are doing them a priceless favor by giving them this blessed opportunity (2 Corinthians 8-9). IF a person is truly right with God, would they not then release the funds the work of Christ is in need of? See Luke 12:15-21 and 16:19-31 to find out the answer.
George Muller Myth Debunked!
George Muller has often been used by unrepentant greed-mongering “believers” who refuse to truly repent and therefore continue to serve “mammon” in lieu (in place) of Christ. Hell awaits.
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:19-24
Some like to use George Muller as a smokescreen when New Testament ministries let people know there are needs. Be it known: George Muller DID let the ministry needs be known and that is what God used to quicken people to participate and they all got blessed both on earth and for all eternity! (Matthew 6:19-21) Muller was forthright in letting this be known. He never came out and openly ASKED for money which is different than making the needs known. And, Muller is not the authority. Jesus says “Give” and His servants are to preach this part of His Word. I’ve read Muller’s personal book, recently. I don’t apologize for putting out there that the LORD’s work needs help and is an opportunity for each of us (2 Corinthians 9:6-11)… those who participate will thank me in Heaven as it will secure for them eternal dividends …. it’s a free will offering – “The LORD loveth a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) Those who get upset get upset because they are covetous, greedy, and serving the god of self and downright dare anyone to address these soul-damning sins. They are unrepentant and will perish unless they repent. “For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.” (Ephesians 5:5-7).
Are you on the streets seeing the poor, destitute, and needy? Do you personally and daily interact with needy believers who need prayer, grace to grow, to be fed, to be helped in various ways? I do. Do you think this may be the motivation – THEIR well being? It’s easy to sit back entrenched in one’s own little world and have no clue as to the needs of people. I don’t complain about being homeless …. I have complained about people not giving so others can be reached and blessed and touched and will certainly do so more if needed. American IS Laodicea … thinking she is rich due to material and financial wealth and yet she is lost and hell bound, all while vainly thinking she is saved ….. She has her bills paid but has not chosen to be “rich toward God” and therefore her “soul shall be required” of her (Luke 12:15-21). If she were rich toward God would He not merit her first portion?
Proverbs 3:9-10 tells us how to “honour the Lord”:
“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10
Jesus is knocking on the doors of many hearts here in Laodicea before it’s too late because He’s not willing that ANY should perish (2 Peter 3:9) …. Listen…. “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” (Revelation 3:17-22)
All men alive today have the one-time choice to love God with their whole heart, soul, mind, and strength or to love self and this fleeting world.
—– Our lack of taking personal responsibility to fund God’s work means that His work means nothing to us. It means that everything else we spend our monies on means more to us than His work. Jesus says: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21) Why just sit there? Why not give? Jesus says “Give and it shall be given you …” (Luke 6:38)
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15
Laodicea had this world’s goods and loved this fleeting world. Laodiceans today love the wealth and trinkets and financial gain of this fleeting world and are hell bound, all the while convinced they are going to Heaven. Jesus is calling any such person to repent and be rescued before it’s too late. Read Psalms 49.
Eric M. Nixon writes: “Lukewarm and compromised Christianity are so commonplace in our society that if you’re not careful, you’ll easily become distracted by the ‘cares of this life’, the ‘deceitfulness of riches’, and lose your ‘First love’ who is Jesus Christ (Revelation 2:4). Like a frog that is slowly being cooked alive because it doesn’t perceive the danger that it’s in, so is the lukewarm Christian who compromises godly standards, slacks off on his/her prayer life, Bible study, church fellowship and evangelism, and loves the world in an apostate Christian culture. Friends, now is NOT the time to become slack! Though worldly ‘Christians’ call you ‘holy roller’ or ‘holier-than-thou’, stay on FIRE for Jesus Christ! Your very soul depends on it! Pray for me as I pray for you. Read Revelation 3:15-19.”
Will you be corrected? If so, the fruit will be a steady, deliberate stream of giving to support Christ’s work.
The folks who get upset at the suggestion that they share and participate in support of God’s work are those with the “Don’t you dare bother me. I’m too busy serving the god of self. I’m saved and that’s all that matters is that I am not going to hell! I could care less about anyone else so please stop asking me to participate! If I were to do so it would short the idol of self! So go away!” This is modern Laodicea … Is there anything new under the sun? Not according to Ecclesiastes 1:9.
“Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land? 26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour’s wife: and shall ye possess the land? 27 Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence. 28 For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through. 29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed. 30Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD. 31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. 32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.” Ezekiel 33:25-33
—— WHAT was Jesus warning us bout in Luke 12:15-21? Do you know?
“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Eliset Igat writes: “Amen! God never intended for our possessions to dominate our hearts and keep us from loving Him first…The only kind of riches God really cares about is the wealth of a relationship with Him…Once you have it, you have it all.. (Luke 12:29-31). If you value what’s in it more than you do God, it’s time to tear down the barn…”
