LIFE AFTER DEATH: What Happens when Someone Dies? Where do they Go? [podcast]

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7

Recently a pastor in Chicago was tragically killed in an incident where his vehicle was submerged in water. The following message of intended comfort went forth to his beloved family.

May “the God of all comfort” comfort this grieving family in the loss of their loved one. Let me assume that this was an honorable, bless-ed man, a gift of God to those around him (2 Corinthians 1:2-5). Let us treasure those who bring us the Good News of Jesus Christ and thank God for them. No one else in our lives does for us what God Himself sent them to do. They perform the infinitely most important and only eternal work in our lives. Those who die in Christ are now with the King of glory and will never experience another iota of pain, ever (Revelation 21:4).

“The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. 2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.” Isaiah 57:1-2

Where Does the Eternal Soul Go at the Moment of Death?

Eternal Rest Awaits the Righteous –  For those who’ve lost a loved one

When the righteous pass into eternity – “He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds.”

In the mansion Jesus is preparing for the righteous, apparently there’s a special bed for each of His children, no different than when a father and mother build a house and choose the special bedroom for each of their beloved children.

WHY do you fear beloved of God?

The death of this body is our passport into His presence (2 Corinthians 5:6-8).

They are already with Christ! – Though we miss them, we should be jealous.

“The two most natural parts of life are being born and dying. We are fortunate that our full life happens in the next one!” Caroline

“Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:  7  (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)  8  We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:6-8

“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:” Revelation 6:9

Here’s what awaits those who die in Christ.

“The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. 2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.” Isaiah 57:1-2

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

Karen Cochran shares:

“The other day I told God I was weary. Weary of the battle, weary of this world. He gave me Psalm 69: 3. ‘I am weary of my crying my throat is dried, mine eyes fail, while I wait for God.’ While I wait for God means to me a New Heaven and New Earth where we will find rest for our weary souls and be with Jesus forever. It makes the things of this world seem minute in comparison to our promise of a new Heaven and New Earth. Stay in the fight saints, our redemption draweth nigh. Luke 21:28.”

Recently, a dear sister in Christ, who had recently lost her beloved husband, shared the following:

“Yes, I know the LORD is with me in this loss, but I want my husband to be with me, too. Oh, well. As David said, ‘I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.’ So, I wait until that time.”

SOON saints, you will realize just how worth it was to serve Christ.

We shall be vanquished into glory – forever whisked away into eternal bliss with the Father and Jesus – as was Enoch who “walked with God.” God is going to take us away from all evil to be with Him forever (Revelation 21:4)!

Notice in this golden passage below that “the righteous” when they die, will have escaped all harm. Shouldn’t this be a consolation in the wake of our lost loved ones?

“The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.” Isaiah 57:1

For the righteous here is what they, we shall all specifically escape:

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more DEATH, neither SORROW, nor CRYING, neither shall there be any more PAIN: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

“There shall be no more …
death,
neither sorrow,
nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain”

“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” Genesis 5:24

The righteous are heading for a place of eternal bliss and rest (Revelation 21:4).

“He shall enter into peace: THEY SHALL REST IN THEIR BEDS, each one walking in his uprightness.” Isaiah 57:2

Our mansions will include beds to rest in…. of course this rest is primarily referring to our place with our LORD in glory and yet, I’m convinced there are other and perhaps literal meanings here.

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:1-3

Six Facts about Heaven

1. Jesus and God the Father are there (Revelation 4; 5; 21; 22)
2. There will be no more tears, death, sorrow, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4).
3. We will have glorified bodies (Philippians 3:21).
4. The street will be made of gold (Revelation 21:21).
5. Animals will be harmless (Isaiah 65:25).
6. We will be reunited with our loved ones who chose to repent and follow Jesus (Luke 11:28).

“Death is not to be feared, it ushers us into eternity with God. Life with God eternally is what everyone of us should long for. In everything you do, have eternity in mind. If there is anything in your life that is drawing you away from God, you should realize that it is not worth it.” Unknown

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:27-28

Obeying Him proves you are ready to meet Him.

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Romans 6:16

There is NO work, no-thing transpiring on the earth more important than the work of our LORD’s Gospel. Most of the other things are vying for your affections. Read Luke 21 and Colossians 3:1-4. JESUS is coming.

Set your life up for success by hard-scheduling Christ into the first waking moments of your day – in prayer and His Word (Matthew 6:6; Mark 1:35; 2 Timothy 2:15). Prove to God that HE, not you, is first! Put Him first, not second, including in your finances/spending (Proverbs 3:9-10). Build your days upon the Rock – the only unmovable platform, destined to victory!

WHAT you presently see with your physical eyes, is going to be over, gone, soon (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3).

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.” Isaiah 65:17

What’s coming? Read Revelation 21 to see.

Memory Verse

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are TEMPORAL; but the things which are not seen are ETERNAL.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

We Came and We Return Naked

“I read this verse this morning. Job 1:21. We will be as rich when we die as when when we came out of our mother’s womb. We brought nothing in and will take nothing out. Worldly wealth is all dung!” Karen Cochran

“And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Job 1:21

No man owns anything actually. God made and owns all (Psalms 24:1). The LORD alone gives life and then takes it away, allows it to end. Then were will we, where will you be?

Salvation

Salvation is only and all and exclusively in Jesus Christ. It’s only in being in Christ that we are justified, made righteous.

Jesus Christ plus nothing = eternal life. Any person attempting to add ANYTHING to His heavenly redemption, His solution to sin – is a Hell bound idolater. Adding law-keeping, your religion, your good works …. is a blasphemous spit in the face of a holy God who sent His only begotten Son to die, be buried, and raised against from the dead.

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” Romans 3:24-28

Repent now and denounce your evil, sinful unbelief, your futile trust in anything or anybody outside of Heaven’s soon coming KING – Jesus Christ.

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, … 8  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:5, 8

Jesus Christ is coming.

Shake yourself, now.

This is for all the eternal marbles!

You’d better repent and burn on fire for Christ!

Is what you’re withholding, is what you’re lusting after, coveting, or making more important than Him worth irrevocable eternal damnation?
