“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:3

WHO is God?

the Father of mercies,”

“God of all comfort.”

Where is comfort most important?

In the hearts of God’s people – the only people who are given His comfort and peace.

This bless-ed and Holy Scripture reveals to us that God our Father is “the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;” (2 Corinthians 1:3)

“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentation 3:22-23

  • “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed,”
  • “because his compassions fail not.”
  • “They are new every morning:”
  • “great is thy faithfulness.”

Jesus Christ is “the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Because we have sinned, He is “the Father of mercies.” Because He foreknew we’d be afraid at times, the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ is to us “the God of all comfort.”

“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” 1 John 3:16

The paramount display of God’s love is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary’s hill.

“While we were yet sinners”

“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. … 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8

Saved by His Mercy!

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:5-7

No one deserves hell more than me…. “But God who is rich in mercy” Ephesians 2:

By Grace Through Faith
Ephesians 2:1-10
1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The Bible is the story of divine redemption, it is record of God’s mercy toward sinful mankind, His reconciling of sinners back to Himself …..

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” John 12:32

Jesus is drawing all men back to Himself…. am I hearkening, am I doing things His way and no others……

“the healing of the nations” is the perfect redemption of Christ. Revelation 22:2

Jesus was….

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5-6

Jesus “tasted death”

“that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” Hebrews 2:9

Jesus experienced death for every man so we don’t have to ….. “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

Jesus was forsaken that we might be forgiven.

“And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Mark 15:34

“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation…”  Hebrews 2:3

Lest we take for granted our LORD, and ….

“For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.” Psalms 103:11

If you fear God you obey God (John 14:15; 15:14).

“As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.” 1 Peter 2:16-17

“Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” 2 Thessalonians 2:17

“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. … 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” Romans 7:18,24

“Less than the least”

“Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;” Ephesians 3:8

When this revelation becomes a reality in your heart, your innermost man and disposition, you are going to be a completely transformed person… you are going to love with God’s love, you are going to show mercy to others as God has so gracious shown to you…. you are going to stoop down to the hurting, the lowly, you are going to be that Good Samarian, you are going to give as God has given His only begotten Son for you…..

“Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.” Romans 12:16

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” Psalms 51:17

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. …  15  If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:1, 15

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21

Because we “have all sinned”, we are all in need of the Savior (Romans 3:10, 23).

Prayer: Father in Heaven, I come to You as you required—in the name of Jesus Christ. I just want to thank You today that You are so very merciful, comforting and gracious to us, Your children. I love You Jesus and thank You for dying and rising from the dead to save me. You are the Master of this life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
