True vs False Fellowship [podcast]
One of the main and stated reasons for fellowship is to prevent God’s people from falling away. Notice:
“Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another DAILY, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;” Hebrews 3:12-14
If your “fellowshipping” is limited to Sunday mornings, instead of “daily”, as Scripture prescribes, you are out of biblical order (Hebrews 3:13).
Is your fellowshipping limited to a certain building, location on Sunday mornings? That’s not the New Testament pattern.
“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the TEMPLE, and breaking bread from HOUSE TO HOUSE, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,” Acts 2:46
“And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you PUBLICKLY, and from HOUSE TO HOUSE,” Acts 20:20
Some people are so worn out by their involvement with their local “church” that they don’t even deeply study God’s Word for themselves. Something’s got to give – and for the God-fearing, the local church involvement will give!
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
Do we need to find a “church” or should we begin to consider that we ARE the church? Gather with a saint or more and have REAL fellowship as defined by God’s Word! (Acts 2:42; Colossians 3:16, etc.)
We need to change our perspective on fellowship by what we read in Holy Scripture (Acts 2:42-47). The record of Scripture reveals the importance of kingdom fellowship while modern pastors have made it all about their “church” busine$$ they are building. Beware.
So many today waste their lives in this temporal world, having sold their souls to the local church, where their allegiance goes instead of to Christ.
Repent and follow Jesus. Fellowship with other true born- again followers of Christ DAILY (Luke 9:23-24; Acts 2:42-47; 5:42; Hebrews 3:13; 10:25, etc.). We ARE the church (called out people of God) and so it’s not somewhere you go on Sunday morning.
Jesus’ people gather to glorify Him and love one another. They do not gather to tickle the fancy of or cater to the “felt needs” of those who attend (Matthew 3:6-10). They do not entertain the lost nor amuse the brethren. The apostate modern church world is flooded with slick salesmen falsely pretending to represent Christ. They are buying their prey wholesale and selling them retail (2 Peter 2:1-3). When God’s people gather, together they get into His Word, pray, eat, fellowship, and have communion (Acts 2:42).
Do you spend more time in “church” than in the Bible itself? Wow! Red flags flying!
Are you supporting the WORK of Christ or some mere man’s “church” enterprise?
“That’s why I say that I’m going to the “church house” when I go to the church assembly. We don’t go to church—that’s IMPOSSIBLE, have church—IMPOSSIBLE, for we are the church and have the church —within us!” Stacy Strother
Indeed, there are multitudes of starving Christians who go from church to church today trying to find their place. In the end, many of them give up even seeking a good church—because they are determined there are none. At such a juncture, perhaps it’s time to just be the church – the people of God. And to gather with one or more for fellowship, according to the model found Acts 2:42.
When Peter had declared that Jesus was the Christ, Jesus said:
“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18
Jesus said He would build His church which means He’s building His kingdom in the hearts of His people! Jesus’ statement here has nothing to do with the building of kingdoms in full operation in the modern church world. The true church – PEOPLE of God – and the modern church, are mutually exclusive. Discernment.
True New Testament fellowship does not equal going to a “church building” on Sunday morning – specifically if that gathering is not Christ-centered, fiercely Biblical, and full of God’s love and strict adherence to His Holy, written Word.
When you are seeking Christ daily, you don’t need a Sunday morning pep rally.
Looking for the church means simply looking for other true members of Christ’s body! WE are HIS church – called out ones. Amen Jesus. Fellowship, Gatherings
A physical so-called “church building” is the base of operation for so many of today’s false prophets who make merchandise of the people (2 Peter 2:1-3). So, unsuspecting, undiscerning souls walk into these “houses of worship” and are recruited to participate. In many cases, they therefore lose all – their souls, their treasure, time, and talents, etc.
“The last church I was at (for 7+years) programmed people to completely trust the pastors, never question their authority or words or actions, and if ever mistreated by them never speak up or you will be slayed, slandered, and removed. Oh, and do not follow Biblical procedures such as Matthew 18, etc. And the leaders seemed like the most godly loving people. Unless you cross them. Church-goers are totally trained to follow authority and don’t ask questions.” S.
