“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” John 19:30

What Exactly was “Finished” at the Cross?

WHAT Did Jesus Fulfill?

What Did Jesus Finish?

What did the Son of God Accomplish by Dying for Our Sins on that Cross?

Much Divine Truth is Locked Up in This

On the cross Jesus declared “It is finished” but what is it that was “finished”? (John 19:30) Let’s peer a bit into this ultimate truth…

“It is finished” in John 19:30:

“Finished”
Strong’s Concordance

teleó: to bring to an end, complete, fulfill
Original Word: τελέω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: teleó G5055
Phonetic Spelling: (tel-eh’-o)
Short Definition: I end, accomplish, pay
Definition: (a) I end, finish, (b) I fulfill, accomplish, (c) I pay.

G5056 télos (a neuter noun) – properly, consummation (the end-goalpurpose), such as closure with all its results.

[This root (tel-) means “reaching the end (aim).” It is well-illustrated with the old pirate’s telescope, unfolding (extending out) one stage at a time to function at full-strength (capacity effectiveness).]

Let’s read it now: Matthew 5:17-18 …

BEFORE He died on the cross Jesus says:

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to FULFIL (expire; abolish). 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be FULFILLED.” Matthew 5:17-18

Here in this passage, the recorded words of the Messiah, the words “fulfil” and “fulfilled” here mean “to expire” – do away with by fulfilling!

“Fulfil” in Matthew 5:17:
Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance

Greek word: pleres
“accomplish, complete, fulfill
From pleres; to make replete, i.e. (literally) to cram (a net), level up (a hollow), or (figuratively) to furnish (or imbue, diffuse, influence), satisfy, execute (an office), finish (a period or task), verify (or coincide with a prediction), etc. — accomplish, X after, (be) complete, end, expire, fill (up), fulfil, (be, make) full (come), fully preach, perfect, supply (the solution).”

Now, there is a unique/different Greek word for “fulfilled” in verse 18 of this passage:

“The law… fulfilled.” in Matthew 5:18:
Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance

Greek: ginomai
be brought to pass, happen
A prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be (“gen”-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.) — arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.

Are you gaining a picture here?

Either Jesus 100% merited the salvation you have or you do not have salvation (John 19:30; Romans 4:4-5; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Only Jesus could have satisfied the claims of the Father’s justice to redeem, to forgiven men – and He did just that – when He shed His perfect, precious, sinless blood on Calvary’s cruel cross for our sins. “It is finished” means the price to bring us back to God, to forgive us, is now “Paid in full.” (John 19:30)

ALL “BY HIMSELF” – Jesus needed no help: He alone was sufficient to propitiate, expiate, atone for the sins of mankind.

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had BY HIMSELF purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” Hebrews 1:3

ChristologyDiscipleship

The claims of the Father’s justice to redeem fallen mankind were perfectly satisfied – fulfilled, finished, complete – when Christ shed His precious, sinless blood on that cross!

Are you denying Christ and don’t realize it – by saying you can personally keep the law while despising His perfect sacrifice as He nailed the law to the cross and took it out of the way in His death? (Colossians 2:14-19)

IF you still think you have to keep the law to be justified by God, you have openly denied Christ’s perfect sacrifice! (John 19:30; Romans 10:4; Galatians 2:16) Just what can you add to the perfect sacrifice of Jesus on the cross?

Timothy Zango writes: “The penalty is paid and the demands of the law is fulfill thereby giving birth to the New Life In Christ and the sanctification of Christ’s saints! Praise be to God for His Word of restoration.”

This revelation in the above words of the Messiah is consistent with the whole unveiling of Holy Scripture. Jesus came to do something and that’s why while dying on the cross for the sins of the world, He declared “It is finished.” (John 19:30)

IS IT “FINISHED” OR DID THE LORD ALMIGHTY LIE TO US? (JOHN 19:30) DID OR DID NOT THE SON OF GOD ACCOMPLISH SALVATION PERFECTLY BY OFFERING HIS SINLESS, INNOCENT, PERFECT BLOOD ON THE ALTAR OF THE CROSS? THIS IS SOMETHING EACH ONE OF US MUST ANSWER.

What Exactly “is finished”?

  • The work of redemption (Matthew 26:28)
  •  The Mosaic covenant with it’s priesthood, temple and sacrifices (Romans 10:4; 2 Corinthians 3; Colossians 2:14-19; Hebrews 8)
  • The curse of the law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:13-14)
  • Sin (in the sense that it was all placed upon Christ – past, present and future) (Romans 6:14; Hebrews 8:10-12; 9:12-14, etc.)
  • The prophecies and types concerning the Messiah’s death (Luke 24:44; Romans 15:4)
    · The old fallen creation (which was placed ‘in Christ’). God’s purposes are now centered on a ‘new creation’ in Christ.
  • Satan’s dominion and hold over man (John 12:31; 16:11; Hebrews 2:14-15; 1 John 3:8)
  • Jews and Gentiles: In Christ we are one body (John 10:16; Ephesians 2)

The whole counsel – testimony of Scripture – reveals that Jesus came to the earth to and did accomplish perfect salvation by perfectly fulfilling the law and the did away with it which “was against us” (Colossians 2:14) – took away, abolished, and nailed to His cross the law (Colossians 2:14-17; 2 Corinthians 3:11).

“For if that which is DONE AWAY (abolished) was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. … And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of THAT WHICH IS ABOLISHED.” 2 Corinthians 3:11, 13

Read 2 Corinthians 3 and Hebrews 8.

It has been wisely stated that “If you’re flirting with Moses, you’re cheating on Jesus.”

Have you memorized John 1:17 ?

“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” John 1:17

If the previous, old covenant was sufficient why did God replace it with the New Covenant? Read Hebrews 8 and discover which of the 2 covenant is the “better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” (Hebrews 8:6)

7 Sayings of Jesus on the CrossJustification by Divine Grace Through Faith

BEING THAT YOU HAVE THE GOOOOOOD NEWS, YOU ARE ARMED WITH THE BEST POSSIBLE NEWS ON THE PLANET …. MAY GOD OPEN A DOOR FOR HIS LIGHT TO SHINE THROUGH YOUR BLESSED LIFE TODAY!!!! AMEN JESUS – YOU ARE ABLE!!!! THE FULL PRICE HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID!!!! JOHN 19:30

Anyone who gets saved and then doesn’t drill down into the doctrinal letters and epistles and get grounded in grace through faith justification and living, will be susceptible to being deceived by the antichrist judaizers in our midst. It will cost many of them their eternal souls. There will be not 1 law-keeping judaizing snake in Heaven. If you don’t know that, you are biblically illiterate. Romans. Galatians. Ephesians. Philippians. Colossians. Hebrews.

Biblical Justification

Men are “justified by faith” and kept “by faith.”

“Justified by faith”

“Therefore we conclude that a man is JUSTIFIED BY FAITH without the deeds of the law.” Romans 3:28

“Kept by faith”

“Who are KEPT by the power of God THROUGH FAITH unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:5

Justified by faith but sanctified by law keeping????

NOT. “The just (those justified by God) shall live by faith.”

Born again New Testament disciples are saved by grace through faith. They are saved, justified, and sanctified by faith. They live by faith and not by law or law keeping. See Hebrews 11:6.

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith (not law to law): as it is written, The just shall live by faith (not law keeping).” Romans 1:17

“But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live BY FAITH.” Galatians 3:11

“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back (go back to law keeping), my soul shall have no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:38

Jesus will Judge Us by Our Works

By Glenn and Dezi Langohr

JESUS — JUDGED BY WORKS

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father… Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied…? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:21–23

Our works clearly reveal what is in our hearts! Fruit.

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” Matthew 16:27

“…all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” John 5:28–29

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: *the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” John 12:48

PAUL — CONTINUE IN GOOD WORKS

“Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life.” Romans 2:6–7

“For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.” Romans 2:13

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

“…they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.” Titus 3:8

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10

“…for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing…” Galatians 6:7–9

JAMES — FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” James 2:17

“Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” James 2:24

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James 2:26

PETER — BE HOLY, DO GOOD WORKS

“And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear.” 1 Peter 1:17

“Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” 1 Peter 2:12

“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.” 2 Peter 1:10

 SUMMARY

Jesus said He will judge every man by their works (Matthew 16:27, John 5:29).

Paul taught that eternal life is for those who continue in well doing (Romans 2:7, Titus 3:8).

James declared faith without works is dead (James 2:17, 24).

Peter warned God will judge every man’s work (1 Peter 1:17) and exhorted us to abound in good works.

God’s people are called to endure to the end with living faith proven by works of obedience, love, and holiness.

To Walk in Love is of the Highest Priority to the LORD [podcast]

If we die without His love we will not be with Him above.

Jesus loved us and all His enemies, even under to death – for our, for the redemption of the world.

“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8  But God commendeth (displayed) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8

Our promised we, His people, will be persecuted as He was (John 7:7; 15:20, etc.).

“The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. ” John 7:7

“Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.” John 15:20

God commands that we walk in His love toward all men, including those who hate and persecute us.

“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and
hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice
to God for a sweetsmelling savour.” Ephesians 5:2

To “walk in love” is of the highest priority to the LORD. Study
this important topic, asking God to fill you with His love and
all the corresponding fruit thereof (Galatians 5:22-23). How
can those who claim to know He who “is love” not walk in
His love? (See 1 John 4:8, 16.)

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of
angels, and have not charity, I am become as
sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I
have the gift of prophecy, and understand all
mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all
faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have
not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all
my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my
body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth
me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind;
charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not
puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly,
seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked,
thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but
rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth
all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8
Charity never faileth.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-8

“Walking in God’s love requires the cross life. This takes dying to your flesh (Gal 2:20). Because our wicked flesh wants revenge. And will rise up in anger. Believing their attacks are personally against us. But when you are walking in the Spirit of God, Jesus will fill you with love for them. By loving them instead of looking for revenge we are showing them the character of Christ. We don’t need to retaliate. Because we see it is the Jesus in you they are attacking. And we are to rejoice in that! Matthew 5:12.  I am beginning to see this manifest in my life. I don’t take their attacks personally anymore. Hallelujah. That can be debilitating in your walk with Jesus. And just keep you in anger! But through the cross you have victory and see them through the eyes of Jesus! And most importantly bless and pray for them!” Karen Cochran

Prayer: Father, You are love. Please fill my heart and life with Your love—to pour on others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Subverted Hereticks [podcast]

Biblical definition of a “heretick”

Biblically speaking, the word heretic comes from the Greek hairetikon, meaning “divisive” (Titus 3:10). A heretic is one who purposes to create disunity, fragmenting the body of Christ – this would include pushing non-essentials and things that are not according to the doctrines of Holy Scripture.

Any man who causes unnecessary division or strife, in the body of Christ by originating and perpetuating unprofitable arguments based on non-essentials and/or false doctrine, is an “heretick” and should be dealt with accordingly.

In verse 8 of Titus 3, the apostle is instructing Titus concerning the things that are “profitable.”

“These things are good and profitable unto men.”

See verses 1-8 of Titus 3 to see what the LORD says are “profitable unto men.”

Now he is going to address those who insist are causing division among the members of Christ’s body based on this that “are unprofitable and vain.” (v9)

The word “heretick” appears 1 time in God’s Word. Here’s the text in which it appears:

“But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10  A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11  Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.” Titus 3:9-11

As we can witness in the above passage, by definition, in Scripture, a “heretick” is one who causes strife and divisions by the use of “foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law” which Paul says here are “unprofitable.”

Those who cause divisions by believing and teaching things that are not according to God’s Word, are to be marked and avoided.

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” Romans 16:17-18

“divisions”

dichostasia
dee-khos-tas-ee’-ah
disunion, that is, (figuratively) dissension: – division, sedition.

“That there should be no schism (division, rent) in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.” 1 Corinthians 12:25

“schism”

schisma
skhis’-mah
a split or gap (“schism”), literally or figuratively: – division, rent, schism.

Living in God’s Peace

Have you found also that at times, living at peace with someone, means living at a distance from them?

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Romans 12:18

It’s also important to create distance between yourself and any person who is drawing you away from the leading of the LORD, the calling, the thrust of ministry. This is the work of the evil – using “foolish questions,” nit picking, doubt casting, “and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.” (Titus 3:9-11)

Because of the chosen evil nature of some, whom I believe we can call “swine” and “dogs,” there will be no peace and so the choice must be made to cut them off. For myself, I’ve had to cut off – block – block certain people in order to remain in peace, to stay away from strife “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” (James 3:16) Jesus commands:

“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” Matthew 7:6

Dogs, swine are not to be allowed to be within range of stabbing us, rending us which means to tear or stab.

Based on the instructions of Holy Scripture, personally, I am quick triggered with people who refuse to hear truth after it’s communicated to them. Read Titus 3:10-11 and Matthew 7:6 and consider being obedient to these divine commands which are written to you.

Here’s why you must study God’s Word – the whole of it – for yourself:

Perhaps the most insidious, dangerous thing false teachers do is that they over emphasize the minors while evading or under emphasizing or never mentioning the majors – the doctrinal majors of God’s Word.

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. 25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.” Matthew 23:23-25
