The Most Important Result of Prayer

Relational Results

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John 15:7

We hear so much about “prayers that get results” as if results is all that matters, no matter what. Is that all that God is worth to us – to just answer our prayers? And, it seems that some could care less what is done to get that result (even un-scriptural stuff). Beware! I’m talking about the error of concentrating on the answer or result of prayer while forgetting the very One who made us and who we are seeking in the prayer. Many times we hear prayer spoken of as a mere means to an end or a vehicle to get what we want. But prayer should be firstly be communion with our LORD.

The greatest prayer that gets divine, blessed results is the praying that causes God’s changes in us, causing a willingness to present our bodies a living sacrifice and being made conformable to the death and image of Christ! (See Romans 8:29; Philippians 3:10.) Then, as we obey God by entering into that unchanging purpose for which He made us – communion with and knowing Him – then, “we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” (1 John 5:14-15)

“Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” 1 John 1:3

He made us for the purpose of knowing Him and it is vital that we pray out of a communal relationship with our LORD (John 17:3). That is we, through the communion of knowing Him and seeking His holy face to know Him more, we ask.

You were created to worship, seek, love, and know the Father and the LORD Jesus Christ. Any leader who does not regularly visit, preach, and instill this central biblical truth in his listeners is not fulfilling God’s call for a disciple and is perhaps a self-serving wolf (Philippians 3:18-21).

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3

Returning to the LORD in repentance will result in our individually coming back to the very purpose for which He made us – for relationship – to know Him!

With this critically important essential truth in mind, please allow me to ask you: Have you memorized John 17:3, Romans 8:29; Philippians 3:10? Write them on index cards (KJV) and memorize, internalize, meditate upon, and live out. Get 3 friends to do the same this week.
