Rooted and Built Up

by Travis Bryan III

The deeper we are rooted into our death and burial with Christ, the higher we will be built up into our tower of resurrection and ascension with Christ.

There is proportionality between the depth and height of our experience of this dying and rising truth. The lower we go in the humility of Christ, the higher our experience of His life. The more surrender, the more victory. The more weakness in our flesh, the greater our strength in Christ. 2 Cor 12:7-10.

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus (initial death and resurrection participation with Christ), so walk ye (dying and rising daily with Christ) in Him: ROOTED AND BUILT UP in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Col 2:6-7.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection. Rom 6:5. The verb “have been planted” is, in the Greek, written in the perfect tense which literally means “a past event with continuing effects.” Rom 6:5 could actually be translated “have been and CONTINUE TO BE planted in a death like His.” This perfect tense refers to a continued deepening process in us of our death and burial with Christ which is then directly proportional to a greater and greater experience with Him of His resurrection life and power.

Another verse that shows us this phenomenon is Isaiah 37:31:

And the remnant that is escaped out of the house of Judah shall again TAKE ROOT DOWNWARD, AND BEAR FRUIT UPWARD.

The deeper our roots go down into death and burial, the higher upward goes our fruit bearing stalk.

Jesus spoke of this similarly in Mark 10:37-38. His disciples wanted Him to arrange a high place for them on the right hand and left of His throne of glory. His response was to ask them if they could drink the cup and undergo the baptism that He would have to undergo. This was just another example of the principle that your height of glory is dependent of how low you have gone with Christ.

In order to be a co-king with Christ you must first be a slave to men. He that is greatest among you, let him be . . . as he that doth serve (a slave). Luke 22:26.

We are all called to drink the bitter cup of His death on the cross in order to experience the glory and power of His throne of resurrection, ascension and session. Rom 8:17.

We cannot know the length, breadth, length, height and depth of His love or be filled with all the fullness of God until we are ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN HIS LOVE!  Eph 3:16-19.

Some fell on stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and BECAUSE THEY HAD NO ROOT, THEY WITHERED AWAY. Matt 13:5-6.
