Resist Not Evil: Matt 5:39
This piece is about the strange paradox of just how it is that we gain real glory and resist sin, evil and the devil. 1 Pet 5:6-9. This is all very counter-intuitive to what the natural mind thinks. We resist evil by not resisting it. Matt 5:39.
We resist the one who strikes blows against us by loving him and absorbing his blows in non retaliation. Matt 5:38-48.
We resist our enemy when he is hungry by feeding him and giving him drink when he’s thirsty. We overcome evil with good. We kill evil with kindness. Rom 12:17-21.
We resist wolves by becoming lambs. Luke 10:3-6.
We defeat death by dying in the Lord. Heb 2:14.
We crush the violent one with peace. Rom 16:20.
We conquer the enemy by being slaughtered “all day long every day.” Rom 8:36-37.
We overcome murder by presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice. Rom 12:1. We preserve ourselves by dying to self-preservation.
We destroy the devil and his works with self-sacrificial nonviolent unconditional love. We die to self daily in order to destroy evil. 1 John 3:8; Heb 2:14; Rom 6:6.
We conquer the earth through meekness, not power. Matt 5:5.
We gain the real throne in this life only by giving up the illusory throne of self. We stand at our throne by being simultaneously slain. Rev 5:6. The only real throne from which we can ever truly rule and reign is the Cross of Christ.
We win the victory in life by raising the white flag of surrender. Rom 12:1-2.
The way to gain the high place of advantage is to get down and seek the low place of the poor and let others do all the ascending. Luke 14:7-11.
We perpetuate evil by human effort to stop it. Gal 3:3.
We fulfill the law by getting out from under it. Rom 6:14; Rom 7; Rom 13:8-10.
We become invulnerable by being willing to be vulnerable.
We commit sin by trying to keep the law apart from a faith receipt of God’s grace. Rom 14:23; Gal 5:4.
We find real life only through death. 2 Cor 4:10-11; Gal 2:20.
We judge like God does: by loving and judging not. Matt 7:1-2; Rom 2:1-3.
We win battles by laying down our carnal weapons and taking up divine ones. 2 Cor 10:1-4.
Thru Christ, we make something out of nothing. Rom 5:17-21. We do not make something out of something. They way to gain is to be brought to nought as were Abraham and Sara in their impotency.
We get stronger by becoming weaker. We grow spiritually thru prayers that are NOT answered. 2 Cor 12:7-11.
The only way to get is to stop grabbing and give.
The only way to get control is to give up control. The only way to be in a comfort zone is to be pulled out of your comfort zone.
The way to become spiritually wise is to stop advancing and go back, back to the simplicity of an innocent little child. Matt 18:1-5.
The way to gain is to lose. Phili 3:3-11.
The way to be truly filled is to be emptied. The way up is down. Phili 2:5-11 @v7.
The way to gain a great reputation is to be made of “no reputation.” Phili 2:7.
The brilliant minds of this world do not have eyes to see or ears to hear these paradoxical truths.
We are only truly blessed thru cursing, opposition and adversity, the experience of the cross. Rom 8:17.
The only way to rise up is to fall down. John 12:23-25.
We discover the way to getting it right is by getting it wrong. Luke 18:9-14.
