Red Sea Slam

Redemptive Withdrawal at the Red Sea.  Ps 106:7-11.

Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red Sea.  Ps 106:7.  God’s wonders in Egypt were to let an evil destroying angel to destroy an evil people and cause God’s people to walk free.  Ex 12:23; Ps 78:49-51.  The Red Sea is another example of Redemptive Withdrawal.

After their deliverance from Egypt, the Israelites committed an evil: to grumble and complain against Moses.  We also grumble because of the afflictions that always accompany the process of the principle of the cross, being redeemed from slavery to sin, self, the law and Satan’s power.  Rom 6:3-7.  He who is dead is freed from the power of sin.  Rom 6:7.  We too complain when we must suffer and die with Christ in order to be freed.

Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.  Ps 106:8.  His mighty power against the enemy always comes thru the cross and its principle.  1 Cor 1:17-18.  God’s power against evil is never exerted as direct violence.  It is always inflicted indirectly against the enemy thru the cross.

He REBUKED the Red Sea also and it was dried up: . . . .  Ps 106:9a.  This verse proves that the Red Sea was an evil sea controlled by malevolent powers.  God rebuked the evil powers in the sea.

But how did God rebuke these sea demons?  He opened the way for an EVIL EAST WIND (Hos 12:1) to blow against the evil sea.  He let this evil east wind blow against the evil sea all night long causing the sea water to be divided against itself (death) with dry ground (resurrection) appearing in the midst.  Ex 14:21.  This is God’s way of rebuking evil: to WITHDRAW and allow evil to come against and rebuke itself.  The evil wind caused the evil sea to be blown back and divided.  A house divided against itself will never stand.  It will always fall.  Mk 3:23-27.  This is the principle of the cross: God withdraws, seemingly even forsakes (Ps 22:1), His Son on the cross and lets demonic powers and people attack and kill Him and, in so doing, God allows evil to self-destruct.  Heb 2:14.  God then raises up His Son out of the midst of the flood of death and burial.

. . . So he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.  Ps 106:9b. This is the only way to freedom: to suffer with Christ in the negative forces and depths of despair that Satan brings against us.  God turns cursing into blessing and death into resurrection.

And he saved them from the evil hand of him (Evil Pharoah and his army) that hated them (God’s people), and REDEEMED them from the hand of the enemy.  And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of their enemies left.  Ps 106:10-11.  This aikido-like (aikido is a martial art where you reverse the enemy’s force against you back upon his own head; Ps 9:15-16; 7:15-16) self-destruction of evil involved an evil wind which divided an evil sea which then swallowed up an evil army with God’s people walking right thru the depths into freedom, elevation and celebration.   Ex 14 and 15.

In this same way, God allowed evil to take the bait of His Son at Calvary (Christ crucified) and destroy itself.  Heb 2:14b and 1 Cor 2:6-8.  This is the mystery of the cross and the principle of the cross.

When we ourselves take up the cross daily, turn the other cheek, and overcome evil with good, we kill our enemies with kindness and allow evil to self-destruct.  Jesus turned Peter and Paul over to Satan in order to save them from their fleshly arrogance and impulsiveness.  Lk 22:31-33; 2 Cor 12:7-10.  Satan self-destructed by sifting them of the very flaws in them that the devil needed to use them against God.  Satan’s own actions against them cleansed, purged and prepared them to be more effectively used by God against Satan.  Satan again self-destructed.

God, as He always does, destroys His enemies thru the cross, thereby allowing them to self destruct.  God never lifts a finger in anger.  God’s anger against His enemies is simultaneously the cross of His love for His people.  God’s judgment and justice is the cross.  God’s killing of His enemies is their own violence boomeranged back on their own heads.  God’s people walk through the cross events of their lives freed, unscathed, promoted and prospered.  See Dan 3 and 6; 2 Chron 20; Judges 7 and Esther 7:10 thru end of book.

The Red Sea is a great Old Testament type or foreshadowing of the cross and God’s great principle of Redemptive Withdrawal.  Rom 6:3-7.
