Ministry Balance

PWT - Preach, Warn, Teach: “Whom we PREACH, WARNING every man, and TEACHING every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:” Colossians 1:28

“A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.” Proverbs 11:1

IF something doesn’t stand/pass the test of the whole testimony of God’s Word, I will not be following you in believing it. “Prove (test) all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21) Jumping on doctrinal bandwagons without personally studying a matter out from Genesis to Revelation can be dangerous to yourself and others whom you may spread a error or imbalance to. Furthermore, some of the circles that form among preachers can be like a roving cult. Beware. Lots of novices running around putting people in bondage with false teachings they gullibly bought that are passed around by others. …. attempting to determine what is holy and true before they personally study the full counsel of God’s Word for themselves on the matter. There are many examples of error that gets circulated which seems holy but is rather unholy and harms others. No remarriage no matter what is one of these falsehoods. Many have been pigeon holed by looking at a verse or two here or there to the exclusion of what the whole counsel of God’s Word reveals and the divine character He reveals through His Word.

ALTHOUGH God’s people are mandated to “earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints,” our whole identity is not in looking for the next thing to expose. Expose and mark those who teach false doctrine and yet also establish the people of God in the Word of God – teach and preach (Matthew 4:23-24; Acts 1:1; Romans 16:17; 2 Timothy 4:2-4, etc.).
PWT is the apostolic model. PWT = Preach, Warn, and Teach. This was the apostle Paul divine prescription for preparing God’s people to meet Him at His return or their own death. Listen closely beloved:
“Whom we PREACH, WARNING every man, and TEACHING every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:” Colossians 1:28
According to Paul’s revelation here in Colossians 1:28, sounds like approximately 1/3 of our ministry output (in teaching and doing) should be in warning (expose). That leaves 1/3 for preaching and another 1/3 for teaching, right? Actually, it seems that the best way to safeguard the souls of Christ’s saints from deception is to establish their lives in the Word of God. Prophetic of the Son of God, Isaiah 7:15 says:
“Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.” Isaiah 7:15-16
When our hearts and minds have tasted of the “Butter and honey” of God’s truth, we will know the difference is the bitter beguilements of Satan and know to “refuse the evil, and choose the good.”
Warning is Biblical: Get in the Word and get a clue!
Primarily, discernment comes from being grounded in God’s Word.
“And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.” Ezekiel 44:23
Balanced New Testament ministry involves warning God’s people of heresies and heretics – in order to protect them. They are to be marked (Romans 16:17-18). See the 3 elements of apostolic ministry listed in Colossians 1:28. PWT = Preach, WARN, Teach,
Most of the times while observing ministries, we find a gross lack of warning and teaching discernment which are biblical mandates (Ezekiel 44:23; Jude 3-4, etc.). Then, on the other hand, we see ministries which do nearly nothing except expose/warn. Either way these are imbalanced and not according to the apostolic model (Colossians 1:28). The protection and preparation, and preservation of Christ’s sheep involves all 3 of these divine mandates – Preaching, Warning/discernment, and Teaching.

Pastor Mark Herridge Sr. writes:

“Satan is a master strategist and very adept at getting people to focus on things of lesser importance to the exclusion of things of greater importance. Some will focus all of their energy arguing about Sabbaths but can tell you nothing of repentance. Others will argue over the names of God in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic but cannot tell you the first thing about living holy. Still others are all wrapped up in if a Church should register as a 501C3 or not. Some get all worked up over dispensationalism but have not obeyed the command to “be filled with the Spirit”, and others will argue until they’re blue in the face about “pre-” “mid-” and “post-” rapture. While many of these things may need to be “reasoned out” they are not the primary focus of Scripture. Repentance of all sin, living holy, denying self, taking up the cross, walking in the Spirit, loving truth, prayer, worshiping Christ and fulfilling the Great Commission (and many others) are of primary importance. Once you get these things right then you can move on to other subjects.”

May God bless each of His children to be truly filled with the Holy Spirit today, the fruit of Christ’s character being produced in our lives – in all 9 dimensions (Galatians 5:22-23). May our LORD teach us His ways thoroughly and may the balance of the Great Shepherd of the sheep be in our hearts, lives, and ministries. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
