BEWARE of the phony, contrived, fleshly manufactured holiness that is not the “true holiness” that honors God (Ephesians 4:24). In fact, all it does is foster even more self-righteousness which is an abomination to the LORD and the indication that a person is lost (Matthew 21:31; 23:23-25; Philippians 3:9, etc.).
So many among us vainly believe they are “holy” because they don’t do certain sins ….. nonsense! These are pride-filled, self-righteous modern pharisees who make the outer part of the cup clean but inwardly they are filthy and God sees it all and is calling us to truly repent, admit we are nothing without Christ and become surrendered and authentic! (Matthew 23:23-26)
Any so-called “holiness” that is not rooted and coming out of a crucified life that Jesus is raising upward is a feigned, false holiness that god despises! beware of the preachers who refuse to preach the cross (Luke 9:23-24). they are telling on themselves because any individual man who is applying and learning the cross in his personal life is preaching it as the only way to the holiness that truly honors god!
Beware of This false humility and false holiness that rejects Christ and does not uphold the crucified Savior. Paul despised this “Touch not; taste not; handle not” false holiness! Read Colossians 2:14-23.
PERSONAL HOLINESS IS ESSENTIAL …. even though most modern church leaders refuse to teach this (Hebrews 12:14; Ephesians 5:25-27, etc.) ….. YET, holiness, as God sees it, is not possible by way of the flesh (Galatians 3:3). Dying to self and being raised up by the power of Christ is the only holiness Jesus honors!
Simply put – the cross gets YOU out of the way so jesus christ can reign supreme! that is the stated, predestined divine goal in your life!
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
God is able to bring about His “true holiness” in us as we follow Christ according to His cross prescription (Luke 9:23-24; Ephesians 4:25)… He reciprocally raises us up and brings about His holiness in us …. resurrection life springing out of the crucified life (Romans 6:3-8). Here are some cross radio interviews with brother Travis Bryan III (a sitting Texas judge) who teaches on the cross. Amazing.
The doctrine of the cross – the crucified life – is essential to true holiness. Holiness by way of the flesh alone, is beginning in the Spirit at the point of salvation and then attempting to be made perfect by way of the flesh (Galatians 3:3).
—– KNOWING we are called to be holy is not enough. We cannot overcome the fallen nature and all its sins by our human willpower. This is where the cross comes in. We begin and grow to know that God wants us free from sin and yet few ever enter into the revelation of the cross and therefore never experience the victory Christ alone can grant to those who allow Him to conform them to His holy, crucified image (Romans 8:29).
“He that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin.” 1 Peter 4:1
So few are suffering the death of self by the cross and therefore few are overcoming by divine power.
“For he that is dead (cross) is freed from sin.” Romans 6:7
Am I a fool? Do I vainly imagine that Christ’s victorious, resurrection life can or will come without my participation with Him in His death (the cross)? Will God raise up someone who refuses to die? (Luke 9:23-24) Can I truly be raised above my sin nature (resurrection) without His increasing in me so that I can decrease (the cross)? Listen to Jesus’ holy apostle:
“Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened (made alive, raised up), except it die (cross).” 1 Corinthians 15:36
Would God raise up something or someone that wasn’t dead?
“Ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:3
All who have entered into a cross life become addicted to the resurrection life of Christ teeming and working in and through them. Yet, the cross must be daily central, settled, entrenched, and entered into for this resurrection life of Jesus to continue in unbroken, perpetual continuity and momentum.
“Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.” 2 Corinthians 4:10-12
Many today who have realized that the LORD wants His children to overcome all sin and sinning, have not entered into a crucified life and are therefore relegated to try to be “holy” by way of their own doing – mere human willpower. This is a futile, miserable endeavor and can never bring about the glory of God but rather further enthrones the sinful man. The old man must die. The old nature must be crucified ruthlessly and with no sparing. No one can please God in the flesh and only Christ can enable one to crucify the deeds of the body (Romans 8:13).
It’s “through the Spirit” that God is pleased and “true holiness” which is opposite of that false holiness of cleaning the outer cup as did the pharisees (Matthew 23:23-25; Ephesians 4:24). Notice “through the Spirit.”
“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:13-14
Some have learned enough truth to make themselves dangerous. Those who believe they are not to sin (true) and yet do not know, participate in, and understand the cross, have no hope to overcome. Many of these people are stuck at a place of spiritual immaturity, legalism, and self-righteousness. The extent of their Christianity is “Touch not; taste not; handle not.” (Colossians 2:21) It’s do’s and don’t’s instead of relationship. The cross is what is needed to crucify the old man, beginning on the inside.
“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” Galatians 6:14
