Drive-Thru Coffee and Prayer at Dutch Brothers

Kind coffee shop employees comfort grieving customer at drive-thru window

by Chloe Bryan

A Washington woman captured a moment of true kindness Saturday in an unlikely scenario — her morning coffee run.

Barbara Danner was waiting in the drive-thru line at Dutch Bros. when she noticed three employees comforting the woman in front of her.

She later learned that the woman’s husband had passed away the day before, and that the three employees were saying a prayer.

Pierce Dunn, 19, one of the employees, told The Oregonian that he just wanted the woman to feel supported in her time of need.

“She was crying,” he said. “I shed a few tears. We’ve cried since as well. When something that real happens, it hits close to home.”

Another one of the employees, Evan Freeman, explained that he prayed with the woman despite not being religious himself — and it all came down to empathy.

“She could have said she wanted an apple, and I would have gone and planted a tree and grown her an apple. It just happened to be religion that she wanted,” he said.

And Dunn and Freeman aren’t the only ones showing their support. Since Danner posted a photo of the moment to Facebook, it’s garnered over 93,000 shares and over 319,000 reactions.

“Prayers for the young family, and you know where to stop for coffee,” Danner wrote.

Editor’s note:

Business owners should be praying and looking for employees/workers like these.

“I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” 1 Timothy 2:8

You gotta love stories like this that Chloe Bryan reported.
These several young people sprang to the occasion to bless the precious woman in need who had fallen upon hard times.
God is so good.

Learning to Put God First

It would seem apparent that the lady in need got her coffee for free that day but she also received something much greater – God’s love through His body and the prayer they lifted up to the Father to bless this hurting woman. The only thing those Christian people could give her to bring healing to her heart was prayer and they knew that. Only the LORD can heal the broken in heart and this is why Jesus came. And, He delights in the prayers of His saints

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised …” Luke 4:18

There are times when physical things like food, water, shelter, clothing, are exactly what the needed need with prayer also. Yet, the broken in heart can only be touched by the LORD Himself. Have you ever needed the LORD to heal your heart?

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” Psalms 147:3

The LORD delights to heal broken hearts and does so in response to the simple prayers of His people.

“the prayer of the upright is his delight.” Proverbs 15:8

Aren’t you glad our LORD cares so much about us and that we have a healthy heart?
